This James Howell’s descendants from Howell Howell include one John Howell whose memorial is recorded inside on the north wall

of St Lucia, Abernant, Carmarthen. 

‘This marble is devoted to John Howell of Rhydd Y Garreg Ddu, a member of the Royal College of Surgeons in London. Surgeon in the honourable East India Company’s service to the 7th Regiment native infantry, Bengal;beloved by the Corps for his professional Knowledge, integrity and friendly disposition. On the 28th June 1819 And 38th year of his age he died in Bengal much lamented by a wide circle of acquaintance.
