New Category[edit]

After a lot of work I created this category as a sub-category of "Human societies" where it would best fit in the categorization project. The effort stemmed from a lack of sleep and being pretty upset when I saw Freemasonry and the Ku Klux Klan on the same list.

Most of the organizations had something written on them, stubs at least. I wrote stubs for Moose International and Fraternal Order of Eagles and am hopeful members from those organizations will pick up the ball from there.

Being a Senior DeMolay my focus was on the Masonic Organizations and getting them organized. I know there is another Masonic Youth Group called "Boy Builders" that existed at one time but have found nothing on it thus far, it will require more research.

I am not a Master Mason (although this work has gotten me thinking about joining lodge again) nor a member of the other rites so please, if you note any mistakes feel free to step up and correct them. I tried to write it from an unbiased point of view.

Hope all approve of the work (it took a while!).

Thanks for your work WF. To further refine the categorization, I'm going to create a separate category for genealogical organizations such as the DAR, Mayflower Society, etc. There are many of them and their primary purposes are neither fraternal nor service-related (though some are male only and most perform some heritage service). The boy builders was a group similar to the rainbow girls, as in the boys did not have to be related to Masons. I was a Job's daughter growing up, I am 54, and I did not know the boy builders had disappeared. Our Masonic lodge had the Mason's, the order of the Eastern Star, Job's daughters and the boy builders. We were in Lombard, IL debi24.2.159.141 (talk) 01:57, 20 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Category links[edit]

Is there a reason why this category is linked at the Secret Society category page? I don't think any of these fraternal and service organizations would count as Secret Societies. Blueboar 18:55, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
