Aksai Chin[edit]
Aksai Chin (a Hindi name) is a region that India claims over China as a part of India. Given that the Hindi name for China is Chin, doesn't the name Aksai Chin actually give the game away because even in Hindi the region is named as a part of China? 81.129.180.47 (talk) 00:40, 27 April 2013 (UTC)

"Chin" didn't always refer to China in other language[edit]
I want to point out historically "Chin" didn't always refer to China in other languages, even though its etymology was clearly from "Qin" even at the time. See the article about the Urdu poem Tarana-e-Milli. --Voidvector (talk) 22:19, 10 January 2020 (UTC)

Characters not properly rendered[edit]

Etymologies for sign languages[edit]
I added a section regarding sign language names for China, and pointed out that Hong Kong & Taiwan SL have unrelated signs—can anyone point out where those come from? Also, a handful of languages have other unrelated signs—what about those? I suspect the Polish and Turkish ones (see Spread the Sign) indicate a Mandarin’s long mustache…? שונרא (talk) 14:29, 6 October 2023 (UTC)
Removing exhaustive translations[edit]
Since WP:Wikipedia is not a dictionary, I will be removing the exhaustive lists of translations for each name. They are fun, but ultimately not helpful for the vast majority of readers. Let me know if you have any concerns. Remsense诉 03:31, 13 February 2024 (UTC)
