I posted a link to the ash documentary and the article was reverted. I don't see what the big deal is since I'm sure the film maker authorized the site to stream his work. So what now? --92.135.174.115 (talk) 02:55, 17 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

External links Removed[edit]

There were some recent back-and-forth edits removing and re-adding the external links section. They were removed citing WP:EL and WP:NOT. Thanks to Koolabsol for linking those two pages. After thinking it over, I do believe at least one external link should still remain:

The original official alt.suicide.holiday website is contained here, and it also includes the methods file, both of which were a huge part of alt.suicide.holiday and it's culture (the latter of which is discussed in the article as well). The original website mirrored would have been unambiguously an Official Link according to the guidelines were it still actively maintained, and should still qualify as such, considering it is an exact historical archive of it.

I propose adding just the above link within external links.

The link to one of the archives as off 2023 links to a still online forum in a similar vain to ash, and I will be removing that link because of that. Removed from article[edit]

I just removed this paragraph from the article because it's not very encyclopedic, no cites, just the opinion of someone who presumably participates. Anyone who wants to fix it up and reinclude it, feel free:

While maintaining a pro-choice position on suicide, ASHers do not encaurage anyone to carry out their plans. For most people who post on alt.suicide.holiday, the newsgroup is the only place where they can express their thoughts of suicide without being judged and ridiculed. That support is enough to keep many ASHers from ending their lives.

Cleared as filed. 17:53, 18 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

That position is clearly stated in the FAQ. Just put in a cite to the FAQ (I can't recall how to cite things). I thought about posting what one of the IRC channels was, but - no, I'd rather my refuge not be invaded by trolls.

ASH is just a place with a sense of... solidarity, for lack of a better word. I started on a related IRC channel 3 months ago, and it's been an incredible comfort. There's nothing that can replace talking to someone who actually knows how you feel and has felt it themself - theres no substitute. You think therapists know what you're going through, how you feel? I am no longer activly suicidal, in large part because of my friends in the IRC channel who conforted and helped me.

Heh, rant, sorry... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.226.35.107 (talk) 04:21, August 24, 2007 (UTC)

How many lives has ash saved?[edit]

Unfortunately, the answer is "countless," so there's no way to post a stat on it. 68.83.72.162 (talk) 02:56, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

One, at least, that I can vouch for... Eve Hall (talk) 14:12, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
