accuracy not edit war[edit]

I came across this article randomly. (I try to edit random articles for typos.) I was concerned when I saw the edit this morning. It's entirely appropriate for us to describe where something is by the country it's located in today. It's also entirely appropriate to describe where something is using the conditions at that point in history. May I suggest that we recast parts of this article to say things like "at the time, part of the Russian Empire"? MKoltnow 16:14, 15 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I applaud this comment. It may be hard to believe that many (if not most) wikipedians editing this segment of Wikipedia believe that Finland has been an independent state from 1809 onward, but sadly this is the case. There is little we can do unless they read up on history. --Ghirla -трёп- 11:36, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
