History[edit]

There were small ( "dwarf") Bulldogs as well as Bulldog mixes in England at t hat period of time [1] . English Bulldog crosses were used to create and develop the French Bulldog, referred to as " Toy French Bulldog" or "French Bulldog" as per author of the cited book. Dwarf and small purebred Bulldog puppies were also born time to time, and also could be referred to as "toy bulldogs". However, the smaller variety of the Bulldog had never been established as a breed. Anyway, the weight of the "small" bulldog in the book is "under 35 lbs", and aim is to produce a 28 Lbs dog. Not 8 Lbs dog.

Modern attempts to create a small version of English Bulldog by crossbreeding results mostly to production of odd looking mixes that do not resemble the purebred version of this breed.

Suggest leaving a mention of the "Toy Bulldog" for a reference to French Bulldog and Boston Terrier breed history Afru (talk) 16:04, 11 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
