Lake Express problems[edit]

I reverted to the "In August 2006 several trips were cancelled because of waves and mechanical problems. An August 12, 2006 article in the Muskegon Chronicle reported that the vessel was only running on three of its four engines and halted all trips for passenger comfort due to wave conditions. All ferry service was halt to fix mechanical issues on August 15 through August 18." text and added a source to back it up. While the above information may be news, it is not appropriate content for a fact-based eycyclopedia article. It smacks of negativity. No such comparable information was provided for the rival S.S. Badger. -- Sue Martens, journalism instructor, Grand Valley State University.

I don't see why the mention of a distressed boater was removed. There seems to be a concern for parity with the article of a competing ferry. Regarding this ferry's relaibility record, if it's notable enough for the local papers to mention then it's worth mentioning here too. The fact that the ferry was shut down for three days and reported in a newspaper does not make it factual for an informative encyclopedia. A reliability record belongs is a promotional brochure. Similarly, you don't see the number of airplane crashes for a particular airline in an encyclopedia article on air travel. -- Sue Martens

Notability[edit]

A rescue and temporary service halt barely register a blip on the notability scale. If a significant amount of people were injured or killed, it would hold up to notability standards. —Rob (talk) 18:14, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree. The rescue is a big deal and should be noted. In fact I feel that some more should be written to include the fact that the ferry has been involved in several other rescue efforts. If that part is going to be re-added, then it should be mentioned as one particular rescue in a series of other rescues; the one individual event in itself isn't notable. I still feel that a service interruption doesn't count, though; this ferry is doesn't exactly function as a major arterial for commuters. —Rob (talk) 18:44, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have been cancelled on 50% of my reservations with the Lake Express. That's not much of busniess model. My questions is "how are they still in business"?

How many trips did you book? Two?

Below legal accommodation for persons with disabilities[edit]

I have traveled the Lake Express ferry 3 times. The 4 th will be tomorrow. If you bring your car, you will be put in a priority waiting area in order to board the ferry. You will likely be parked near the elevator which is a plus for those with problems walking far. However, the seating for persons with disabilities is almost nom- existent. There are three seats with no tables and enough room for me with a leg brace that keeps one leg straight, to sit. However, these seats are marked for those who are "accompanying a wheelchair". No clue what that means: wheelchair user or wheelchair pusher? I am neither. I cannot squeeze into the rest of the seats because one must be able to bend both legs inorder to do so. So, three seats of dubious purpose that are accessible.. Last trip I found a kid and baggage in those seats. I had to ask a passenger to remove the baggage so I could sit. No crew help at all. I called today to make sure that they really are accessible. No luck there. I'm supposed to find a crew member if the seats are being used.
