Over a decade after its production run ended, it is more popular than ever, with modifications and major upgrades (including a lift kit) now available. For all things BRAT visit www.SubaruBrat.com, and www.USMB.org for more broad Subaru matters.

For general trivial information: In the later 1980s and early 1990s at the wrecking yards (auto salvage yards selling used auto parts) where I worked very few BRAT parts were sold. What WAS in great demand were the seats bolted into the BRAT's bed. Owners of pick-up trucks bought them to allow passengers to ride in the pick-up bed in semi-comfort and to allow them to wear seat belts to increase passenger safety. I rarely see a BRAT on the road in the USA today.Obbop 01:43, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

==Notable owner==

President Ronald Reagan owned a 1978 BRAT until 1998, which he kept at his ranch near Santa Barbara, California. The vehicle has since been restored and returned to the ranch, which is now owned by the Young America's Foundation.^[1]

== In popular culture ==

In the television show George Lopez; Ernie Cardenas, George's best friend, drives a Subaru BRAT.

In the television show My Name Is Earl, Joy drives a Subaru BRAT painted with the American flag.^[2]

In the online comic Achewood, it is implied that everyone who goes to hell receives a 1982 Subaru BRAT. ^[3]

Trivia[edit]

Approximately 90,000 second generation (EA81) BRAT's were imported into America between 1981 to 1987. Approx 300,000 were imported into Australia between 1981 to 1994.

1991 and 1992 Subaru Australia released an "Aquip special" Brumby utility.
