the offset cylinder is called the blanket cylinder the 3 cylinders cannot be inline, as the impression cylinder has to be offset

Robert Barclay[edit]

The second paragraph says:

Development of the offset press came in two versions: in 1875 by Robert Barclay of England for printing on tin

and links to a "Robert Barclay (23 December 1648 – 3 October 1690)". As far as I can tell, there isn't yet an article on the inventor Robert Barclay.

Time line[edit]

Is as far as I can tell correct, but it is interesting that the dates of invention precede widespread application by several decades in most instances. E.g. as late as the 1970s, "offset printing" was talked about as the hottest new thing, and laser printers slowly conquered the workplace over the 1990s.2A01:CB0C:CD:D800:3999:AD7D:2296:6887 (talk) 07:40, 14 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
