I could not get this article to come up searching by Alexandrine Tinee, Tinne or Alexandrine, which i find strange. In the end, I had to comb though all of the articles alphabetically, but only because i already knew it existed. Frustrating.

Searching without the accent works now, as work has been done to create redirect pages (without accents) for people whose names include accented letters.

Searching for "tinne" or "tinné" goes to Tinne the page about the letter in Ogham script. Maybe there needs to be a disambiguation page for tinne and tinné. Marfinan (talk) 00:13, 5 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Year of birth[edit]

I added a verify tag to the page because I noticed that the birth year (1835) specified under her image is in conflict with the introductory sentence (that she was born in 1839) and with the included "1839 births" category. In the external link, it says that she was 22 in 1857, suggesting that the 1835 date is the correct one. Could someone research this? Thanks.

Somebody (not me) corrected the birthyear already to 1835. I can vouch for that, too. See [1], which is in Dutch, but one can easily recognize the dates. I think the contradiction-tag is superfluous now, so I removed it.--Ereunetes (talk) 19:31, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Alexandrine – or Alexine, as she preferred to be called herself – Tinne (not Tinné!) was born on 17 October 1835. Her birth was registered on 19 October 1835 in The Hague. In the birth-certificate her name is "Alexandrine Pieternella Françoise". Her father's name in the document is "Philip Frederik Tinne, rentenier" ("rentenier" means "person living of his interest" or "person of independent means"). Added: well, I tried it out and it doesn't work. Here's how to find the birth-certificate: on the Home page click on "Zoeken op datum" ("Search on date", button on the left), specify "19 oktober 1835" twice under "Van" ("From") and "Tot" ("To") and choose "Geboorten" ("Births") as "Bron" ("Source"). Then click on "Zoeken" ("Search") and choose "Geboorten 's-Gravenhage ("Births The Hague") from the list. The certificate is under "Afb. 31" (document nr. 1635, bottom right). Hope you can read it. Correct name[edit]

As already noted above some years ago, her correct full name (as on her birth certificate) is Alexandrine Pieternella Françoise Tinne; Encyclopædia Britannica 26 has it wrong. She was called and called herself Alexine (never Alexandrine). Her family name was not spelled Tinné but Tinne, both by the Dutch and the English family members; the same goes for the firm of Sandbach, Tinne & Company (see e.g. this cheque at the British Museum). The family might have come from France in the early 1600s (see note about Johan Christoffel TINNE on Geneanet.org) but even then did apparently not spell their name Tinné. — CvZ (talk) 20:34, 8 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The source of "Alexandrine Petronella Francina Tinne" (incorrect version of first names) may be either Encyclopædia Britannica or National Museums Liverpool, which owns objects once collected by Alexine Tinne, and donated by her half-brother John Tinne. — CvZ (talk) 20:40, 8 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Here is the entry into the birth register: WikiTree.com Birth Alexandrine Tinné (sic). The website of the Haags Gemeentearchief (Municipal Archives The Hague) has been rebuilt; all birth acts 1811-1914 have been scanned, 37% have descriptions.
