Honorius[edit]

Hi, I edited 450 where you added Honorius suppresses gladitorial games. Honorius died 27 years before this date. So I suspect you meant another date. Maybe you could follow this up. davidzuccaro 00:29, 17 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Help moving a page?[edit]

I'm working on articles related to card games. One article - Shuffling playing cards - should be moved to simply Shuffle, since that term can apply to any style of cards, not just standard playing cards. That page is a redirect now, but it has edit history, so I can't move it myself. Thanks for your help. -- Netoholic 02:26, 19 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Thanks! -- Netoholic 04:09, 19 Jul 2004 (UTC)

War series boxes[edit]

I put that in there so that people could see the differences between succeeding wars. I know that there are probably plenty of wars that aren't included in List of wars, which was where I was working from. I do plan to finish the series, unless you really want them taken out. Then again, would you prefer some kind of poll as to see the public opinion on the series? Some wars don't have pages yet. I don't want to finish the series and then have to revert everything. I'll delay continuation of the series until you can give me a final decision. Good day, and Peace Profound! --MerovingianTalk 22:48, Jul 19, 2004 (UTC)

You look familiar. Do you know a girl named Gillespie?

You'd know right off. You look just like the fiancee of a girl I've known for a while. It's her last name, though.

Hey fellow Londoner![edit]

Hey as a response to the message you left me, yep, I'm from London. Believe it or not but I was just about to leave you a message about whether your from London. Heh, Pretty neat. --Aaron Einstein 20:44, Jul 21, 2004 (UTC)

Walls of Constantinople[edit]

I have excellent photos of the walls (if I say so myself), which I will add to the article when I get time. But why is it called Walls of Byzantium? So far as I know Byzantium didn't have walls, and if it did nothing survives of them. The article should be called Walls of Constantinople. Adam 02:27, 27 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Tables[edit]

I am not against suggestions, though I feel reverting due to a layout issue when a fair amount of info is lost may not be helpful

I would be willing to come to an arrangement with you as to common ground on this.

Melisende Psalter[edit]

Excellent article on this! Does it have music notation, either neumatic or otherwise? I seem to be the (self-nominated) Wikipedia medieval music specialist, so I'm just curious. Maybe it's time to head over to the library myself... best wishes, Antandrus 00:43, 5 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Maeander River stubness[edit]

Hi Adam, how much more info needs to be added to the article Maeander River before we remove the stub tag? My opinion was that this is an adequate amount for the topic, but i'm new ;-). Regards Paul August 04:25, Aug 6, 2004 (UTC)

Hi Adam, I wouldn't say I thought it was "as complete as can be" but I do think it's complete enough. Is that enough? ;-) Paul August 04:39, Aug 6, 2004 (UTC)

Intent[edit]

I'm not really understanding your ways of combating the B-Movie Bandit. If he can't play by everyone else's rules, why should he be allowed to play at all? This, I think, is giving him justification that he can come back and do this some more, like he has been for MONTHS. It's like no one even cares. Mike H 23:04, Aug 8, 2004 (UTC)

When I first came here, Dunc_Harris actually accused me of being him on Vandalism in Progress. So I got into it that way...it's been two months since I've come here, and two months more since he started contributing. He won't ever respond to anything we say. We've tried reasoning, and he just keeps doing it again and again and again. He doesn't care, so why should I care about keeping his information? Mike H 23:12, Aug 8, 2004 (UTC)

I believe there was light vandalism on Ellen Holly, Michael Tylo, and some articles that were speedy deleted, like Gary Pelzer (text: just "gary pelzer") and Jerome Hines (text: "Opera singer. Bass.") Mike H 23:17, Aug 8, 2004 (UTC)

Whenever he encounters an article that already exists, he deleted the current content and inserts another of his sub-stubs. But beyond that, he creates TONS of these things, never comes back to them, and will never discuss his additions. RickK 23:18, Aug 8, 2004 (UTC)

Latin?[edit]

Angela referred me to you, because she says you're a sysop on the Latin Wikipedia. How did you become fluent in Latin? B-Movie Bandit[edit]

Hi. Thought I'd weigh in on the subject of Wikipedia's favorite pest. This situation has been going on for months, and everyone has been either making stubs or redirects out of the entries. I've done four today. Lately, he/she has taken to reverting existing articles to his/her idea of nonsense. How does gender matter?? The answer is simple. We have gender-specific pronouns in the English language. When we don't know a user's gender, we should use phrases like "he/she" to avoid sexist language. 66.245.99.94 23:50, 22 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Changeling[edit]

Dear Adam, there are pages called Changeling and Changeling (legend). The creator of Changeling suggested that the page should be about the legendary changeling. However, as long as there was little info on the legendary Changeling he had made it a disambiguation page. I have worked some on Changeling (legend) and think it should be renamed "Changeling" in accordance with the original wish. I have created a page called Changeling (disambiguation) to which I have moved the disambiguation info. However, I don't manage to move Changeling (legend) to Changeling. Would you help me out? image deletion[edit]

Hi Adam,

I've been uploading a bunch of map images I've created showing New Brunswick counties (am also doing Nova Scotia & Prince Edward Island - likely this weekend).

I've been having trouble with this NB image:

(Image:Map of New Brunswick highlighting Kent County.png)

It was uploaded at a larger size than it should have been (4" sq.) and I've tried uploading new images (1" sq.) to save over it but it's not working and it consequently displays at low res and wastes space.

If you get a chance, can you delete the whole image and all revisions etc. to it and I'll re-upload sometime this weekend? Thanks a lot.

Byzantine succession box[edit]

Hi Adam. I've done a bit more work on the Byzantine succession navigation box in my sandbox. Please have a look. It's not as attractive as your proposal, but it should work with the simple boxes and multiple successions — I'd like to do a bit more work on it.

The trick is to get horizontal rules to show up correctly in all web browsers. There are lots of ways to format tables (simple HTML table model, complex HTML table model, cascading style sheets [CSS]), and each browser has varying support and different bugs concerning these. —Michael Z. 18:05, 2004 Aug 28 (UTC)

First Crusade[edit]

Hi Adam, overall I think your edits are good. I am taking a class on the First Crusades from a Harvard educated professor as the source. I do have some concerns which I will list below. I will make additions to the First Crusade as I have time and learn the material, cant help with the others for now.

1. "Urban knew of Alexius' request beforehand, and had probably already begun thinking about a military expedition to the east." .. what is the source for this that Urban allready knew and was allready thinking about it? If so, how is it relevant? I think it's from EB1911 but a lot of EB1911 stuff is questionable in either fact or relevance. The important point to stress is that Urban wanted to heal the rift of the Great Schism by helping Alexius, and he wanted to end violence of nobles in Europe, those were his two main motivations. I think saying he allready knew it was coming is confusing and not relevant and questionable.

2. Deus lo volt! The correct spelling is Deus le Volt. This according to my Harvard teacher and according to the other teacher who posted in the Discussion page. What is your source for this spelling?

3. What was the reasoning for removing the below? I added it to show there were multiple reasons why people joined the crusade to explain who it was so popular it appealed to many diffrent people for many diffrent reasons, this is important stuff about the material versus religious benefit, how not everyone went for religious reasons and were forced to go.

Crusaders also hoped to obtain material benefit. Historians believe this was not the primary aim of crusaders, but it did exist and some crusaders did very well, although most spent more than they earned which makes scholars believe money could not have been the primary motivation. There were feudal obligations, many crusaders went because they were commanded by their lord and had no choice. There were family obligations, many families had crusading traditions, or they were bound by blood to help a family member.

4. Many were killed but they arrived largely intact at Constantinople in August. .. this seems to be a point of contention, unfortantly I dont have an authoritative source to back it up at the moment. My teacher tells me the majority of the First Crusade, in raw numbers, did not make it past Hungry. Peters group was only one of many which was part of the crusade.

Entmoots[edit]

"First you get the admin status, then you get the power, then you get the women...right?"

Your sexism is noted, but you are quite wrong. It works like this: First you get a history degree from an inferior university teaching propaganda, then you enforce your views on others who you seem to feel you have the right to libel, then you engage freely in sysop vandalism, and all of this just makes you fat. We repeat: we don't recognize your authority, we aren't interested in your rules, and censorship of legitimate contribution to GFDL corpus will be noted for the lawsuit against Wikimedia. Clear? Good.

Hi! Thanks for the feedback on the Greek drama pages I updated. 'preciate the compliment! (I would have responded earlier, but I'm still learning the Wikipedia ropes - not even sure this will work...) -Sasha Kopf

Hrosvit[edit]

Hmm. I think mine is a ton better. "First dramatist" is bad juju. "First" anything is bad juju, and especially with "Dark Ages." Icky. Ok, here's what I think should happen: I'll get the dates from the old one and the external link (though, frankly, I'm suspicious of it) and do redirects from its title, plus the one that redirects to *it*. I got my title from the Oxford Dictionary of the Christian Church, so I'm inclined to accept it in the absence of a reference. Geogre 15:17, 25 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Thanks[edit]

For your note on the reference desk, which reminded me of my good old days studying Early Modern English History at the graduate school at Simon Fraser University, where, I am sorry to say, we played no Latin Scrabble, though I won a number of games of "early modern hangman" with the only other student there in my period (the only rule was that one had to announce the language that the phrase was in, in advance). My thesis was on prayer in the English Reformation. May I ask what you're working on? Had I to do it over again, I would have been a medievalist -- I find the period fascinating. Jwrosenzweig 22:18, 27 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Fascinating! :-) Thanks for letting me know. You're bringing back fond memories of paleography now (I must be in a nostalgic mood today) -- hours in front of the microfilm machines looking at account books. I hope you won't mind if I pop in now and again and ask what you're working on. I hope someday to take Latin (well, learn it -- "taking" it may or may not occur) and do some work in earnest in the medieval period, all of which fascinates me (though I think the centuries where it bridges out of late antiquity are always most intriguing because I find them most remote). Good luck in your studies, Jwrosenzweig 22:33, 27 Sep 2004 (UTC)

block policy[edit]

Your block of me last night was not done in accordance with policy. I was in a content dispute and had made about 5 edits (of maybe 10 overall) regarding whether Google page count was appropriate in an article claiming notability. In retrospect, I agree it was probably not a useful entry to the page, but it was not vandalism. Nor was your block in accordance with policy that I can find. For comparison, see User_talk:Rex071404#TWENTY reversions in one day. No need to respond unless you just feel like it, I am not worked up over this. But, I do want to bring the following points to your attention:

 1. "If you find yourself reverting a considerable quantity of edits by the same user, due to vandalism or edits by a banned user, it may be appropriate to block the user or IP address."[2] A content dispute is not vanalism.
 2. "The situations when sysops are permitted to block users are given below. Blocks should not be used in other cases. In particular, blocks are not meant to be used against unpopular opinions, or one-off vandalism incidents."[3]
 3. "Sysops may, at their judgement, block IP addresses that disrupt the normal functioning of Wikipedia. Such disruption is to be objectively defined by specific policies, and may include changing other user's signed comments or making deliberately misleading edits. Users should be warned that they are violating policy before they are blocked."[4]
 4. "Blocking may not be used to prevent a user from posting unpopular opinions. A content dispute between users should be settled on the article's talk page or on their own user talk pages. If it cannot be resolved that way, there is a clearly defined dispute resolution procedure to resolve contentious issues."
 5. "These things are not vandalism, though they are sometimes called vandalism. They are therefore treated differently: ... Bullying, or stubbornness: Some users cannot come to agreement with others who are willing to talk to them on an article's talk page, and repeatedly make changes opposed by everyone else. This is a matter of regret — you may wish to see our dispute resolution pages to get help. However, it is not vandalism."[5]

Wolfman 03:17, 29 Sep 2004 (UTC)

hmm, then I apologize for giving you a hard time. who blocked me, or where would i find that info? i don't want to cause a ruckus with him/her, but i do think it is important for a sysop to follow the rules. and so, i simply want to bring this matter to their attention. Athena[edit]

Hi there. You've deleted a few contributions I've made to the Athena entry for being "dubious" in nature. I assure you that they're quite indubitable and accurate--well, accurate in as much that it has a source. The information came from 'Athena: A Biography', by Lee Hall.

Reporters without borders[edit]

"We invented freedom of the press" does not equal (even if it were ture) "we currently have the most free press in the world." This sort of reminds me of a friend's story of his trip to Washington, where a tour guide claimed the US invented democracy. Adam Bishop 18:12, 27 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Re: Victoria Park[edit]

Hello Adam: I'm surprised at how quickly you found my Victoria Park pictures. No, I don't live there, I reside in Dixon NM and recently did a drive by in London - part of a larger, longer, story. Okay-if the Spirit should so move you, wander over to London, Ontario and check out the pictures. Right now it looks mor like the site has ben vandalized than added to, so enjoy yourself and let's see what can be done. Someone else pointed out that there is a page, "Photos needed attention" or something, and I could dump the whole thing there, but i wanted to give you first shot at it. Carptrash 17:08, 31 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Yes, your London rearrangement and sizing is a big improvement. i dumped them down at the bottom and you used them as wikipedia building blocks. Thanks for adding the names of the churches and links Gothic Revival that you did. I am in the planning stages of a Gothic Revival in North America article and took a lot of pictures in Southern Ontario for it. However, I lost that roll of film, at least it has not yet surfaced, so those shots are out. Oh well. Carptrash 21:18, 31 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Sorry, no I did not get to UWO. i was just downtown, wandering around, looking at what ever came up. I have had two former students of mine go to UWO, john [?] Ferris and . . . . .someone else, but I never really thought about it being in London. The pictures that I've posted pretty much reveal the extent of my travels in London. i did post a couple from nearby St. Thomas that were amost immediately cut down to half size by some local whose ideas of graphic layout differ vastly from my own. Carptrash 00:29, 1 Nov 2004 (UTC).

a question for you[edit]

I notice that some one has gone around and changed the term "American" to "United States" in places where to me it seems . . . . . . . akward. So I am wondering, as a Canadian, do you feel weird, or anything when the term 'American" is used exclusivly for citizens of the US of A? Before I started any sort of a "thing" about this I thought I'd check with you. Like you I tend to avoid topics here that are likely to lead to editing wars or hard feelings [and there seems to be a fair amount of that sort of thing lurking around] , so I figured, "Hey, Adam will be square with you!" Carptrash 05:59, 1 Nov 2004 (UTC)

First crusade[edit]

Thanks for the message. I had to limit my wikipedia editing lest it take over my life, but I do try to come by every few weeks. Will take a look at the First Crusade article, though the crusades aren't really the center of my expertise. Loren Rosen 06:48, 10 Nov 2004 (UTC)

I'm starting to look at the article. It looks good right now, so far as I can tell, but there are two things I'd like to do. One is edit a bit for diction and clarity-- there are a few overlong sentences, etc. The second is that there is a lot of additional useful online material that should be linked in, from De Re Militari and from the book The Crusades from the Perspective of Byzantium and the Muslim World, published by Dumbarton Oaks. Will try to get to these soon-- it would be nice to feature the article later in November, corresponding to the anniversary of Clermont. Loren Rosen 04:03, 12 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Elaine Benes[edit]

Hey there Adam, you were asking which episode did they say the character of Elaine Benes hailed from Towson, MD? It was in episode 8 "The Jacket". This is also the same episode where we learn a couple of facts about her family, such as her sister in St. Louis and an uncle who worked in the Dallas book depository with Lee Harvey Oswald. Hope that helps.

I noticed you set up Paria as a redirect for Paros - I was wondering what underlying logic was - Paria is the name of a part of Venezeula, of Trinidad, and a river in the US. Is it also a name for Paros? Granted, the other things lack pages, but how does Paria connect with Paros? Just curious how to proceed (obviously it makes no sense when the [Gulf of Paria]] (between Venezuela and Trinidad is bounded by a Greek island :) Guettarda 19:23, 16 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Thanks. Now all I need to do is find an extra 30 hours a day to do the things I really want to do in Wikipedia :) Maybe I shouldn't have asked (since it puts the onus on me now to do something Guettarda 19:34, 16 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Why are you reverting my accuracy tags? Gzornenplatz 01:33, Nov 17, 2004 (UTC)

Mike Garcia[edit]

You REALLY think what he wrote on Hephaestos's page is an APOLOGY? All he said was, sorry, I didn't sign you up for music emails. He didn't say "I'm sorry I abused you, I stalked you, I swore at you, I called you names." What he wrote is NOT an apology. RickK 06:15, Nov 17, 2004 (UTC)

why did you delete my page?

Translation request[edit]

Hello, I need some help with communication in French. Apparently ip User:81.56.104.13 user changed from a vandal to someone speaking only frech. (see edit history) Assuming good faith it would be nice to explain the frech-only ip sharing user what was the problem with vandalism. My frech is good enough to understand his message on my page but no more. Thanks --Wikimol 16:36, 23 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Article Licensing[edit]

Hi, I've started the Free the Rambot Articles Project which has the goals of getting users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to...

 1. ...all U.S. state, county, and city articles...
 2. ...all articles...

using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) version 1.0 and 2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to the GFDL (which every contribution made to Wikipedia is licensed under), but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles (See the Multi-licensing Guide for more information). Since you are among the top 1000 most active Wikipedians, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles.

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual template (or MultiLicensePD for public domain) into their user page, but there are other templates for other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual with MultiLicensePD. If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know at my talk page what you think. -- Ram-Man 20:40, Nov 29, 2004 (UTC)

Multi-Licensing in a Nutshell: Wikipedia articles can be shared with any other GFDL project but open/free projects using the incompatible Creative Commons Licenses (e.g. WikiTravel) can't use our stuff and we can't use theirs. We feel that it is important to us that other free projects can use our stuff. So we use their licenses too. The downside is that they get to choose the license they use and they may not let us use their modified changes in our articles (and may not be able to anyway!), but at least we are sharing. And you should not feel that you have to do this! Once you release your changes under a certain license, you really can't revoke it. So you should at minimum be ok with it. -- Ram-Man 21:10, Nov 29, 2004 (UTC)

Latin[edit]

Hi Adam. If you get a chance can you take a look at Flavio Biondo (the picture), to make sure it says what I think it says in the caption. There are 5 books mentioned in the article, I think this is one of them.Stbalbach 19:14, 3 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Pretty good translation for not knowing Italian. That's enough to confirm what it is. Thanks! Stbalbach 22:15, 3 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Cleisthenes[edit]

There are two Cleistheneses? Adam 11:20, 5 Dec 2004 (UTC)

The problem with that naming convention is that it suggests he was actually called Cleisthenes of Athens, in the pattern of John of Gaunt, whereas in fact you are only using it as a disambiguation device. I would suggest calling them Cleisthenes (Athens) and Cleisthenes (Sicyon). Adam 22:52, 5 Dec 2004 (UTC)

That would be fine. Adam 22:59, 5 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Pythian games[edit]

I'm somewhat confused. In Delphi, there is a museum exposing the statue of an auriga (charioteer), which was probably part of a bigger group commemorating some chariot race.[6]

To me, this indicates that the statue was a gift from the owner of the chariot and horses who won the 476BC games. David.Monniaux 08:18, 6 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Lawrin Armstrong[edit]

Hi. There was no especially earth-shaking reason behind initiating the article on Lawrin Armstrong. I was doing some research for an article I'm working on, on spec, for a news magazine, and his work came up. I thought it notable enough for a page. --Christofurio 13:23, Dec 6, 2004 (UTC)

State leaders by year[edit]

Whoa.... you've been putting in an incredible amount of work there! I've tried doing this before (somewhere in the 1220's range) and I know exactly how much time and painstaking research it takes to go page by page with 100 countries in tow. Thanks for your hard work! :D

P.S. I realize that by going through empty centuries with just a few countries, I may be increasing your workload. I apologize in advance if I did... :( Is it fine with you if I continue with what I'm doing, or would you prefer that I stop for a while? -- ran (talk) 14:11, Dec 7, 2004 (UTC)

Now I'm really impressed... where did you find the information on the kings of Dali? I've been looking for a list and I just can't seem to find one...
If you can somehow send the list to me / give me a URL / add a list to Kingdom of Dali, I'll be able to add it to all the pages that I go through from now on. Also, if you need, I can help you convert all the names into pinyin transliteration, instead of Wade-Giles, and put them into the naming conventions currently in use (i.e. "King Xianzong of Dali" instead of just "Xianzong").
-- ran (talk) 23:57, Dec 7, 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for the link! It's already proving useful for me. ;) -- ran (talk) 01:28, Dec 8, 2004 (UTC)

Re: Japanese battles[edit]

Hey, thanks for the note about the coloring of naval battles. I hadn't realized there was a purpose to the coloring, I'd just been copying the code out of the earlier version of the Battle of Dan no Ura entry. I'll go fix that. Also, great to know that people notice the work I've been doing - I've been having a lot of fun with it. If you (or anyone else) notice anything else inaccurate, please feel free to let me know.

LordAmeth 20:13, 8 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Hi Adam, If you get a chance, could you move E and N Railway to Esquimalt and Nanaimo Railway (its official name)? Thanks - the redirect issue is a real pain sometimes! Cheers, Plasma east 20:58, 8 Dec 2004 (UTC)

You probably never intended to be involved, but there's a dispute as to what the official name really is. Plasma east ended up moving it on his own, and I moved it back, and there's discussion on Talk:Esquimalt and Nanaimo Railway. If you have anything to add to it, please do so. --SPUI 22:51, 8 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Yeah, sorry for that Adam - I came across the E&N article and moved it to Esquimalt & Nanaimo, but I think SPUI was changing it at the same time last evening and things locked up for me, thus the reason I had contacted you, thinking it was something related to admin rights... serves me right for being impatient with the net & Wik's database! Anyway, it doesn't really matter to me what name the article goes under, just so long as the redirects are working (and they are). 'Til next time, Cheers, Plasma east 07:48, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC)

RFC pages on VfD[edit]

Should RFC pages be placed on VfD to be deleted? I'm considering removing Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Slrubenstein, Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Jwrosenzweig and Wikipedia:Requests for comment/John Kenney from WP:VFD. Each of them was listed by CheeseDreams. Your comments on whether I should do this would be appreciated. - Ta bu shi da yu 03:14, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Middle Ages project[edit]

Adam, Ive set up a Middle Ages project. Here is an example announcement about it to send to other people who might be interested. Let me know what you think or feel free to edit the project page.

A new community group has been created for those working on articles related to the Middle Ages and thought you might be interested. It is a gathering place for those with a common interest in Medieval history. It's a place to announce new articles related to the Middle Ages, general discussions or questions, see who else is out there in Wikispace. Feel free to join or lurk, if you know anyone else that might be interested who is a regular contributor in this area, please pass along the word. The project page is here: Wikipedia:WikiProject_Middle_Ages.. --Stbalbach 22:26, 15 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Can you please help?[edit]

Hello. I selected your name at random from the administrator's list. I'm brand new here. I just created an account, and when I made my first effort at enhancing an article, I got the response that I had been blocked by AllyUnion for "vandalism, pov edits." I tried to E-mail this person by using the link but got the response that it was an invalid address. Since this is my first time here, AllyUnion's block must be a mistake. I tried to use the discussion page for technical help, but got the same block response. Can you help me? According to the block, my IP address is 64.12.117.8. Thank you. Advice[edit]

Hi, I saw you had a featured article candidate listed and decided you would be a good person to ask for advice. Do you see anything that could be changed at pet skunk to improve its chances of becoming a featured article? Thanks, Nathanlarson32767 17:11, 21 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Hi, that article looks pretty good...I'm not sure what to say, I guess the comments on the talk page and on the FAC page have already said everything that occurred to me. It does read a little too much like a "how-to" rather than an encyclopedia article, but I'm not sure how to fix that. Adam Bishop 17:21, 21 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Yeah, live and learn I guess.. It may end up vfd or moved to wikibooks eventually.. however I did learn stuff that'll help me later. Specifically, I learned:
 • To put a footnote after every fact (sometimes, looking back later, even I can't remember where I got stuff),
 • To use hidden comments in the code, in case there is important info that new users who don't know about talk pages need to see before editing, and most importantly,
 • To keep pet-related how-tos to about the length of How_to_care_for_a_pet_cockatoo, so that in the event of a vfd, I can always say "But the pet cockatoo article has been there since Sep 2003!"

Tucson, Arizona and more[edit]

Hi. I saw that you voted on the RFC regarding Tucson, Arizona, and I thought you might be interested in commenting on a broader application of the formatting to other city articles. The discussion (for now) is at Talk: Tucson, Arizona#Other Arizona and nearby cities. (It might get moved to WikiProject Cities, if there's interest in doing so.) Thanks! kmccoy (talk) 01:54, 27 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Project and First Crusade[edit]

Adam, I posted in the /General board on the Middle Ages Project, and was wondering, does that show up in your watchlist automatically, or do you have to post there first?

BTW mutual congrats on First Crusade reaching Featured Article, it will help draw in more editors (hopefully that will be a good thing), and nice to be recognized. Most significant is the current Google Rank of 4; it is already one of the most popular sites on the Internet, I wouldn't be surprised if more people read it than read many books on the subject! --Stbalbach 15:18, 27 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Personal question[edit]

Hi The user 198.82.71.55 or User:GabrielF posted many abuses against me. How to block him? Cautious 00:38, 29 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Look at his contributions i.e. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Contributions&target=198.82.71.55 i.e. 16:54, 15 Dec 2004 (hist) (diff) User talk:198.82.71.55 (I asked a real question you stupid asshole) 02:13, 8 Dec 2004 (hist) (diff) The Painted Bird (novel) (have you read the book xed, or are you just a dick?) 03:50, 7 Dec 2004 (hist) (diff) The Painted Bird (novel) 03:48, 7 Dec 2004 (hist) (diff) The Painted Bird (novel) 03:31, 7 Dec 2004 (hist) (diff) The Painted Bird (novel) (I'm surprised a Polish peasant like Cautious would know how to operate a computer) -- Completely biased, added by dimwitted Slavic editor Cautious

Cautious 00:51, 29 Dec 2004 (UTC)

I think his real name is User:GabrielF. See here Talk:Elie_Wiesel - their contributions are mixed. Cautious 00:55, 29 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Exactly 4 days ago. My real question was the address of the page, where I can report the abuses. May I remove abuses at once? Cautious 00:59, 29 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Is it a dispute??! This guy is using seriously abusive vocabulary. I have no intention to be in dispute with him as long he is using such a words. My question is, where shall I report abuse. Cautious 01:12, 29 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Thanks. I found what I need. Cautious 01:23, 29 Dec 2004 (UTC)

I want to respond to this. I have never posed from 198.82.71.55, that is an IP from Virginia Tech which is a long distance from anywhere I've ever posted from. I'm sure you can confirm that easily. I did not post ANY abuses against Cautious, all I did was take a rant he wrote about Jerzy Kosinski on the Elie Wiesel page and move it to the talk page. I noted why I did this (it was poorly written, clearly POV and just as long as the entire article on Wiesel when Wiesel's involvement in the whole business was peripheral at best. Even Cautious understands this since when he reinserted a reference to Kosinski he wrote only a single sentence. Somebody else wrote an italicized comment on the talk page after my comment calling Cautious "dimwitted", but that wasn't me. For this misunderstanding Cautious has called me a "notoric abuser" on my user page and bitched about me to admins rather than attempting to talk to me directly. This does not give me much confidence in wikipedia as a promising collaborative intellectual effort. GabrielF 04:43, 30 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading the above image. I notice it doesn't have an image copyright tag (currently unverified.) Can you please update with the correct tag? Thanks so much, Duk 05:34, 29 Dec 2004 (UTC)
