Ships[edit]

I was disappointed not to find here the history of the bireme warship of antiquity, one of the very first 'double-deckers'. And where is the double-decker cheeseburger? and the club sandwich? User:Wetman

Please add them. - Patrick 09:39, 29 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Hmmm[edit]

Is this relevant? If so, is it appropriate?

A "double-decker", in the American party scene, can also refer to having a bowel movement into the top tank on a toilet. This often proves quite humorous for the host or hostess, who normally do not realize the act has taken place until the following morning.

No, I don't think it is, so I've removed it. I've also changed that heading title to "food-related meanings", so it can encompass the meanings related to a double-cheeseburger and the like. Graham/pianoman87 talk 10:36, 5 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Do u think it's not true or do u think it's innapropriate? because I think it's true AND perfectly appropriate. It's true because it is a term widely used by commedians and radio hosts, and it is appropriate because bukake has like a whole disertation written on it- i don't see why such definition can't be here.

I agree and see no reason for you removing it, dragon! wiki is not about your morales- it's about FACTS!

It might be true, but I think it's terribly unencyclopedic. Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information. Therefore, I'll remove it. Graham talk 09:39, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Graham: Define encyclopedic. Are you concerned with the writing or the content? And since when is "I think" a basis for drastic actions of this nature, sir?

Graham- if that was basis for removal, why don't u remove articles on things like bukake and atm? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Esce

Please sign your comments with four tildes like this: "~~~~". In any case, thanks for giving me enough information to figure out what film you're talking about. It seems to be the comedy DVD Meet the Creeps, whose mixed Amazon.com reviews can be found here. It only gets 802 google hits, which indicates it has not been mentioned much on the internet, and therefore has not been absorbed into today's popular culture; not being familiar with the party scene in the US, I can't comment on this though. We have articles on much more disgusting concepts than that like autofellatio and Goatse.cx, but that is irrelevant. The usage of "double decker" that you write about doesn't appear to be notable or easily verifiable. Therefore, I will remove the section again. Graham talk 08:48, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Graham The term is also widely used on the Howard Stern show, the most sucessful radio show in the US(till it was on the terrestrial radio) and now an extremely sucessful fixture on Sirius satelite radio. please reinstate it sir- disgusting is not for you to judge.

Now I've found even more evidence that the term exists, so I have been able to verify it. see the Urban Dictionary entry for double decker and the urban dictionary entry for upper decker. I really can't understand what makes people talk about this kind of stuff in public on the internet. Anyway, also see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Upper decker, which means that the definition was not allowed to exist as a full article. It seems that upper decker is the more commonly used term for the meaning you propose anyway. Therefore, it shouldn't be in this article because (a) it's not notable, and seems to be only used in American university party slang; and (b) it's not the most commonly used term for that definition - it has other slang definitions as well. Note that I'm not removing it because I think it's disgusting, I'm removing it because I think it's not notable. Graham talk 06:22, 4 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Distorting mirror effect[edit]

"Double-deck trains often have curved windows upstairs. In the dark and in tunnels this causes a distorting mirror effect."

Is there a point to including this in the article? If so, what is it?

Article splits/DAB conversion[edit]

At this point, the article actually functioning as a lengthy DAB page, given that the majority of the sections now have main article on each section's topic. Given that, I'd like to propose splitting off the remaining sections to their own pages, or linking them to pages already in existance which cover the topics, and converting this page to a DAB page. Comments? - BillCJ (talk) 17:44, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • After one week, there were no comments at all, so I have been bold and performed the conversion. I'm not that experienced at making DAB pages, so feel free to bring it up to MOSDAB standards if I missed something. - BillCJ (talk) 22:18, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
