The North American edition[edit]

As far as I know, the so-called North American edition of Three Sides Live was actually released everywhere but in the UK. I bought that version here in Norway, and it was the only version I saw in shops here until the remastered version came out in 1994 with the extra live tracks. The CD was pressed in Germany. From what I remember at the time and in early days on the internet, the UK (so-called "international") edition was also supposedly available elsewhere in Europe, but I never actually saw it. Can someone prove me right or wrong about this? If I am right, the text in the article should be changed a bit to reflect this. --Blue Elf 23:02, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

When you bought English-language rock LPs in Norway, where were the records manufactured?

I grew up in Los Angeles, and the big chain record stores only sold American records, but there were smaller record stores (like the great "Moby Disc") that had a large number of imports, mostly British. I bought my copies of Foxtrot and Nursery Cryme there (since they were out of print in the USA), as well as my copy of Trespass (since the British version had a gatefold sleeve and the US version didn't). I ended up buying both versions of Three Sides Live back in 1982!

So I would guess that both versions of 3SL might have been available throughout Europe for those who looked hard enough.

But it always seemed bizarre to me that they named it "Three Sides Live" when the version in Genesis' own home country had four sides live..... — Lawrence King ^(talk) 05:13, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Here in the Netherlands I bought the LP version in 1982, ant the cd version shortly after buying my cd-player in 1986 or 1987. Both were the 'so called' Norht amarican versions. At the time I believed that teh UK version had the same songs as the International version, spread over 4 sides, and that we (internatonals) had the extra bonus tracks. It's only today I learned what was on the 4th side in the UK. If the price is right I guess I have to order this remastered version somewhrere, but for now I'm going to play 'you might recall.

Me, I have bought the "three sides live" edition with the studio songs in Germany during the 90s in a record shop or electronics chain shop, and therefore I believe that the "north american edition" simply doesn't exist with this name. It should be renamed into an "all-the-world-except-UK-edition", imho.

I'm surprised the nonsense about an "American edition" is still being propagated here. The version of Three Sides Live with studio tracks on the fourth side was the regular edition that was released all over the world - except in the UK. I've only seen the version with the studio tracks here in the Netherlands. The version with four live sides was incredibly rare here, because it had to be imported from the UK. It was never distributed through normal distribution channels. I still clearly remember this being discussed on the Dutch radioshow "De Elpeeshow" when the host played the live tracks from the fourth side as a special treat for Dutch Genesis fans who had never heard them. --Ymmv99 (talk) 18:53, 7 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Venues it was recorded at[edit]

The article should mention the dates and locations of the concerts at which the tracks were recorded. Does anyone know them?

The liner notes for the CD say that Watcher/It was recorded in 1979, but that's impossible, since it has Bruford on it. (As proven by the liner notes, or just by listening!) — Lawrence King ^(talk) 05:15, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Source and reason of the Fourth Side[edit]

I often wondered why the songs of the fourth live side where included anyway - and the encore songs left out. Especially since the songs weren't from that "three sides live" tour.

Does anyone know about this ? Because this still is a riddle to me.

Personally, I'd be pro for including a short remark about that within the article, although I admit that someone might come and say that this is too trivial.
