1964 Tsunami

It's worth noting that I haven't seen record of another tsunami since the one indicated in the article. Certainly nothing that caused any noteworthy damage. Calling the city 'prone to tsunamis' is a stretch at best.

It's not a stretch. It has been documented by Humboldt State University that Crescent City has been particularly vulnerable to tsunamis for centuries; the most major one occuring in 1700 with a runup for more than a mile. However, a manmade breaker installed after the 1964 disaster may have alleviated the problem in recent years.-- ZincOrbie 21:11, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

2005 evacuation

As a resident who lives about 100 feet above the tsunami flood zone at a major intersection in Crescent City, I find the report of a 20-minute evacuation of the city quite dubious. There was near gridlock at my intersection (within city limits) for at least one hour. I videotaped the confusion and curb-jumping, as cars sat idle for long periods of time in street lanes.

If the "official" report is a successful 20-minute evacuation, I will not dispute it. But it is not what I witnessed.

I was there for the evacuation too, and it was mayhem. The "20 minutes" figure is PR, nothing more.

1-2006 cleanup

I removed the general description paragraph that originally followed the tsunami history. It read like a sales brochure, and the section was mostly redundant when compared with the "History" and "Geography" sections. The non-redundant areas were incorporated into those sections. Greyhound

Not sure what the rationale was for putting a line-out through the mention of Greyhound bus service rather than simply removing it. I've done so. It's too bad Greyhound doesn't make the stop anymore. It's a real hassle making the trip from Eureka so late at night. Any truth to the rumor that they're not making the stop because they don't want to carry Pelican Bay parolees anymore? There seem to be two different sets of coordinates listed... the one in the fact panel on the right, and a different one at the top right of the page and at the bottom in the references section. If you check on the map, both coordinates seem to be the same place downtown (on 4th Street) in CC. I know that Cal Trans does mileage to city halls. But I cannot be sure what the standard is here. Norcalal 18:41, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

"Magnetic Draws"

Inappropriate additions

Crescent City population issues continue.

Recent Crescent City population numbers have challenges. There is the City itself which may be around 3,000 and the prison, which is several thousand more. But the idea that there is a metro population of nearly 30,000 in CC is impossible. IF the Census has a Micro area defined for purposes of demographics, it may declare that the entire county is the CC Micro area, which does not make sense to list CC as a Metro at all. But before these numbers get changed again, I propose that editors need to build consensus on the totals and sources before placing what appear to wildly huge numbers in such a small area/city. Perhaps, also, there needs to be a differentiation between the total in the City and the number in the prison. Regards, Norcalal (talk) 10:00, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

The MICROPOLITAN Statistical Area (which is the entirety of Del Norte County) is NOT the same as a Metro population. There is no such designation for Crescent City or anywhere in the region. MORE CRESCENT CITY DEMOGRAPHIC ISSUES The page states: "For every 100 females there were 250.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 298.5 males." This clearly includes the prison population, which is exclusively male. Crescent City Harbor

The use of the term boat basin to describe the overall harbor district or harbor itself is misleading. The Inner and Outer Boat Basin are distinctive administrative parts of the harbor related to mooring fees. When referring to the Harbor District as a whole, one usually does not describe it as a boat basin, but as a harbor or port. Norcalal (talk) 03:59, 12 March 2011 (UTC)
