Walkin Street[edit]

According to A Finnegans Wake Gazetteer, Walker Street (as it is given in some versions of the ballad) is in Boston or New York City. Tim Finnegan was an Irish emigré, a navvy who helped to build America's great cities. The ballad is not set in Ireland. Eroica 14:57, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vaudeville?[edit]

Isn't the use of the term "vaudeville" in this article something of an anachronism? Shouldn't it be "music hall"? There is no relevant citation, so it's hard for me to sort out. - Jmabel | Talk 06:43, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Errors in Lyrics?[edit]

Recognizing that this is a traditional song, and that many variants of the lyrics may exist, I note a number of lines with questionable sections in the listed lyrics. By comparing to numerous other sets of lyrics listed elsewhere, one finds some degree of agreement between numerous versions, on many elements. Certain lyrics listed in this article do not agree with most versions I have encountered, not appearing elsewhere, and I wonder about the correctness of this version. Being not an authority on Irish music, I did not want to make corrections in the lyrics myself, but I would encourage review of this version by a knowledgeable author, hopefully with references to support the version or versions listed.

One very notable example of an element which causes me to question the correctness of the lyrics posted: "Widow Malone began to cry". Every other version I have encountered reads "Biddy O'Brien began to cry". Widow Malone makes even less sense when in the next stanza Maggie O'Connor (Mary Murphy in this version) replies "'Biddy' says she 'you're wrong I'm sure'". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.138.37.19 (talk) 01:00, 24 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
