POV content, Uttarakhand and all that[edit]
I noticed a lot of external links in the first paragraph, linking the article to some websites related to the 'Uttarakhand' movement, and some reference to relocation of the capital to Gairsain. As far as I know, this is not an official decision yet. I removed the links for the following reasons : a) They had some POV content b) They were badly formatted, and seemed to be some prankster's handiwork.

What do you mean by "Owing to its relative isolation from the Christian headquarters, the exquisite culture of the indigenious people can be well-preserved for years to come."?? This is highly POV and sounds rather hateful. I think it needs to be removed.

Recent developments in the region include initiatives by the state government to capitalise on the burgeoning tourist trade. The state also plays host to some of the worst conceived big-dam projects in India such as the monstrously large Tehri dam on the Bhagirathi-Bhilangana rivers, conceived in 1953 and still incomplete. This seems very POV to me.
Preamble POV[edit]
Uttaranchal borders China in the north and Nepal to the east, while its neighbour states are Himachal Pradesh to the west and Uttar Pradesh (of which it formed a part before 2000) in the south. Nepal is no longer a sovereign nation. It is under the internationally disputed rule of the People's Republic of China. --Benn M. 06:05, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

information on creation?[edit]
The article says that it formed a part of Uttar Pradesh until 2000, but doesn't say anything about the circumstances surrounding it being separated into a new state. --Delirium 11:55, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

name change[edit]
As of December 6, 2006, both houses of the Indian Parliament have approved the name change back to Uttarakhand -- the final change will take place with the official gazetting of the change. Will need to do a search and replace for every encyclopedia entry. --Ceti 04:43, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
As of January 2, 2007, the name of the state is now Uttarakhand. Please update. Ceti 17:24, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
policy on external links[edit]
What is the policy on adding external links? It seems that certain posters are using wikipedia to advertise their sites. This is especially true here as certain sites are included while others that may have more pertinent information are not included. --Ceti 04:43, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
Whats the difference ?[edit]
It would be helpful if a sentence could be added explaining what the words Uttaranchal and Uttarakhand mean in Hindi (?) , what is the difference in meaning, and what is the significance of the difference in meaning. Given the political history, the dispute over the name is obviously significant, but that significance currently remains obscure to non-Hindi-speaking English Wikipedia users.Eregli bob (talk) 17:02, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
