List updater[edit]

In subsection A below, listed are articles which are missing from the List of hip hop musicians. They were found by looking in the categories in subsection C. One can add more categories to be searched to subsection C, see some suggestions in subsection D.

All this process can be restarted by clicking on the link at the bottom of subsection D.

Please note that anything around here is editable, but please don't modify the lines of the form

<!-- bottag:X:begin -->

or their order.

A: Articles missing from the List of hip hop musicians[edit]

B: Place here articles not wanted either in the List of hip hop musicians or in subsection A.[edit]

C: Categories to be searched[edit]

The bot will look for potential additions to the List of hip hop musicians in this list of categories. You may add any other categories to this list, for example from subsection D below. Use the format [[:Category:XXX]] (the colon (:) shows up twice!).

D: Potential searchable categories[edit]

Move up to subsection C any categories which the bot should search for missing articles in the List of hip hop musicians.

E: Articles in List of hip hop musicians not in categories[edit]

May be redirects or articles which should be removed/categorized.

split(continued further)[edit]

Ok. I categorized all of those I could(many were links to things not relating to hip-hop at all, or simply disambiguation pages). Heres whats next(make sure to do it in order generally, or it won't work completely): For me to do:

  1. Replace Category:Record producers with Category:Hip hop producers (if Category:Hip hop producers is there already, just remove the former), in all articles in Category:Hip hop musicians.
  2. Replace Category:American musical groups with Category:American hip hop groups (if Category:American hip hop groups is there already, just remove the former), in all articles in Category:Hip hop musicians
  3. In all articles that are in both Category:American hip hop musicians and Category:Rappers, replace both of those categories with Category:American rappers.
  4. Within Category:Hip hop groups, move all articles that are in Category:American hip hop musicians and/or Category:American musical groups to Category:American hip hop groups, making sure to remove the old categories.
  5. Make a couple categories to help with organization.

For you to do once the above steps are done:

  1. Remove all redirects from List of hip hop musicians, all the lists that we've created(rappers, groups, dj's and producers), AND list of alternative hip hop musicians.
  2. Run your list management bot on all the lists we've created together(rappers, groups, dj's and producers) and on list of alternative hip hop musicians; add new entries accordingly.
  3. Remove everything ‌in List of hip hop musicians(rappers, groups, dj's and producers) that is also on the Lists we've created.
  4. Again, make a list on this talk page of all articles on List of alternative hip hop musicians, Category:Nerdcore hip hop artists,Category:Celtic hip hop musicians, Category:British hip hop musicians and Category:American hip hop musicians, which are not in List of rappers List of hip hop groups or List of hip hop DJ's and producers.
  5. Make a list of all articles on any of the lists we've created(rappers, groups, dj's and producers) and on list of alternative hip hop musicians that are not in a subcategory of some sort that descends from Category:Hip hop musicians.
  6. Make all the links piped.
  7. Remove all redlinks and non-links(often stuff is added without even attempting to link it) from all the lists in Category:Lists_of_hip_hop_musicians(except for List of French hip hop musicians, they protested any changes there..). Keep in mind that some of these are sectioned, but that they all use asterisk based lists under each heading.--Urthogie 14:14, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  8. Sort lists alphabetically, ignoring "The" at the beginning.

Finally, once the above steps are done, all I have left to do is:

  1. Turn List of hip hop musicians into a beautiful looking disambiguation page similar to List of Jews.
  2. Do any necessary tweaks on the lists.

Whoo, thats a lot. But at least we're able to know whats left at this point.--Urthogie 15:29, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I will do it, but I must tell you, it will take a month or two. I have a suggestion. I could write a script which you can access from a talk page which could tell the intersection of two categories. That seems to play a big part in what you want me to do. You could use that script and recategorize things as you see fit; that will take care of items 1 to 4. Then I could work on the other ones; wonder what you think. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 16:56, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, there are online web versions of category searching tools available to public use already. I'll do 1 through 4, and tell you when I'm done, ok?--Urthogie 17:04, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Will do tonight as much as I can. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 16:24, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In the case of List of french hip hop musicians on step 7, please move the non-links and redlinks to List of french hip hop musicians/Redlinks. Thanks!--Urthogie 16:39, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Done with items 1 and 2, took a while. I will continue next week or weekend. Cheers, Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 03:19, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

After further discussion at List of french hip hop musicians, its been decided that we should not run the mathbot on that list at this time. Go ahead with all other plans, though. Peace, --Urthogie 09:48, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Will do, Saturday. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 16:42, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK, done with items 3 and 4, and right below is the list at item 4 you wanted. Will do the remaining items, 5 to 7 maybe tomorow, if I don't forget and find time, or next weekend (we are getting there :) Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 23:23, 4 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I removed everything from List of hip hop musicians after either a)categorizing it or b)recognizing the link has nothing to do with hip-hop. So I'm gonna turn this into a disambiguation page for all the sub lists. Could you run your listbot again, now that I've done some recategorization?--Urthogie 14:00, 5 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I disambiguated.--Urthogie 16:53, 5 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Great work with making this into disambig!

I added entries to List_of_alternative_hip_hop_musicians, List_of_rappers, List_of_hip_hop_DJ's_and_producers, List_of_hip_hop_groups from their talk page. Will do the other items listed above sometime. Cheers, Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 01:52, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Did not get to items 5 to 7 today, but for sure tomorrow morning. I have the list at #5 at User talk:Mathbot/List of stuff, and just need to compare it with what we have in our lists so far. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 05:04, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Done with #5, see all the sections below, and #6 is done by default. Now, #7 will again require me writing a new code to some extent, so I won't get to it this week. Will do next weekend. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 17:13, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent. One other thing I thought of, though. Could you set up your listbot to ignore "The" when it alphabetically sorts musical groups in the future? Would it be possible to update the lists to reflect this? P.S remember not to change List of French hip hop musicians, the French rap fans that watch that article are way to pissy to accept any sort of change to it :). Peace, and thanks! This thing is lookin great, and is definitely the best resource of its kind for listing notable rappers on the entire internet. --Urthogie 18:07, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. I'm done categorizing, removing, and generally sorting through all the things you posted. --Urthogie 20:14, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Good. Will do. :) Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 21:10, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Minor thing: there's also been a request made at list of german hip hop musicians for that page to be left untouched. P.S check the new disambig!--Urthogie 08:14, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I will not remove non-links, as those are hard to tell apart from other text with a bot. About removing the redlinks, that may be openning a can of worms. Some people do like red links, in the expectation that articles about the subjects will be written in the future. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 16:10, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Whatever is easier. If this is how we're gonna do it though, there's one more thing I'd like to do: attach the listbot to the relevant category for each list linked to by List of hip hop musicians (and where there isn't a list, create one).--Urthogie 18:22, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The last thing is noncontroversal I suppose, as it involves writing to a talk page only. Don't know if I will do it Saturday, as I have a full day then, but probably Sunday. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 19:06, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Categories to attach to pages[edit]

This is rather easy to do by hand. One can visit say Talk:List of beatboxers, and put at top the following text:

[http://tools.wikimedia.de/~mathbot/cgi-bin/wp/lists/lists.pl.cgi?Talk:List_of_beatboxers Refresh the above lists]

Then save that talk page, click on the link, and the bot will add the necessary template. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 17:30, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

K thanks. I'll contact you if I need any further help(probably won't) and when it gets featured! Peace and thanks!--Urthogie 18:13, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Working on this list and list of hip hop groups[edit]

There's a pretty clear line between the domain of this article and list of hip hop groups, but I saw a huge amount of overlap in their content and many listed on the wrong one but not the other. There were also many redirects, disambiguation pages, and duplicates. As of this version on 12 April 2015, I've gone through the whole groups list looking for these things. I started going through this list, doing the same, but have only thoroughly looked through A-C, with random changes thereafter. I intend to finish it, but don't have time now, so you're welcome to do so if interested :) — Rhododendrites talk \\ 19:45, 12 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The current list is accurate, but it deserves more added to it.. surprisingly, in Montana there's an unexpected, underdog Hip Hop Scene and community being built on the very foundation that just a few decades ago was unwilling to acknowledge the genre. TRAFF THE WIZ deserves to be on the list, for he has been the voice and light of Montana. If this gets overlooked then ask yourselves the entire reasoning behind the creation of the culture of hip hop and its bottom line. It's 2018, Embrace the genre and who it touches in the darkest corners, choosing another prophet. www.traffthewiz.com BeePeeO (talk) 08:47, 4 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sandiey X[edit]

Why don't we put nasty c , Shane Eagle , A - Reece , Sandiey X & D3cimaL...I mean there's a lot of rappers in the world Sandiey X (talk) 13:19, 26 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • As clearly indicated at the top, this is a list of notable hip hop musicians. Please do not add individuals that do not meet notability criteria (i.e., do not have a Wikipedia article about them), such as yourself, to the list. --Kinu t/c 20:30, 26 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Nasty c , Shane Eagle & A Reece do have a Wikipedia article bro Sandiey X (talk) 09:07, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sandiey X: Nasty C and A-Reece already in the list. You can add Shane Eagle. David notMD (talk) 10:24, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Okay I added Shane Eagle to the list Sandiey X (talk) 18:33, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
