Untitled[edit]

This article borrowed heavily from the Euskaltzaindia web page [1]. Unfortunately this article says that Euskaltzaindia believes that Basque is an Indo-European language when the group's web page says that it isn't, right on the front page. This article needs to be rewritten.

The phrase "Academy watching the official Basque language" is a bit odd. If the Euskaltzaindia has an analagous function to Real Academia Española, the phrase used by that article ("...is the institution responsible for regulating the xxx language.") seems like a better choice. -- John Fader 02:20, 21 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Euskaltzaindia website[edit]

It says :

Indoeuroparra ez den hizkuntza da euskara
El euskera es un idioma no indoeuropeo
Basque is a non-Indo-European language

Ambiguous link[edit]

There is an ambiguous [[Basque]] link in the "Creation" section. I'm not sure how to redirect this. Gil Gamesh 13:09, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Under the batua section: Gipuzkoan was chosen for its isolation from French and Spanish influences, not for its literary tradition. That would be Lapurdian with the literary tradition. For more, see Estibaliz Amorrortu's Basque Sociolinguistics, isbn 1-877802-23-9.
