Wiki Police, don't arrest me!

(Welcome)

[edit]

Hi 6, I see you don't have a welcome message yet, so here it is:

Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and vote pages using three tildes, like this: ~~~. Four tildes (~~~~) produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome!

In particular, you might want to look over Wikipedia:Manual of Style (Japan-related articles). Kappa 21:21, 10 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to respond to my comments, that's fine — but please don't try to rewrite history by amending your comment and then deleting my response to it. Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 21:46, 18 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

— For trifles such as my forgetting a tilde and your pointing it out, my adding the missing timestamp and deleting your pointing it out isn't "rewriting history" but Wikipedia:Refactoring_talk_pages and "Delete, Don't Justify". Such unimportant trifles didn't mandate your reverting the page (as a minor edit, no less) and thus deleting my answer. I've reverted back to the answered page (and inserted a note about the refactoring). -- Diff to my refactoring, not marked as a minor edit and clearly summarized as "Answered Mel Etitis about bans + Transient trifles: fixed my previous comment's poor wording of "permanent vandalism" and timestamp faux-pas, then deleted Mel Etitis' comment about them.)"

Tracklisting for MCMXC a.D.

[edit]

Hi 6, could you please provide your sources about the length of the tracks in Principles of Lust and Back to the Rivers of Belief? And also, I feel that the structure of these 2 songs should not be omitted, and the time should be placed at the end of the song title, as per WikiProject Albums. Thanks and regards. --Andylkl (talk) 17:46, May 28, 2005 (UTC)

— Copied and answered on Talk:MCMXC_a.D. where it'll be more useful ;) ←#6  talk 17:40, 30 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for providing me an explanation for your reasons, I do agree with the last two points mentioned. Btw, I'm also forwarding your suggestion to to WikiProject talk page. :) --Andylkl (talk) June 28, 2005 15:34 (UTC)

What are you saying??

[edit]

Your user page says 6 is not a number. So, what is 3 plus 3?? Georgia guy 19:31, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)

— 3 plus 3 may be 6, but 6 is not a number ;-) Cf.

überpedants

[edit]

ewe really do aNEU! me with this over-zealous adherance to style over content. The purpose of consistent style is to be transparent and thus make it easier to read the content. If you begin rewriting factual content to comply with style, you've defeated the purpose! You'd do well to dwell on that...--feline1 07:55, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)

List of English songs whose title includes nonsense-words

[edit]

Hi - good to see another King Crimson fan at Wikipedia but - if this list is like the other "song" lists, instrumentals aren't included (otherwise I'd have added these and also other Fripp-related tracks like Thrang Thrang Gozimbulx). I've not seen that rule specifically used on this list (it's a new list), but it is used on others like List of songs whose title includes geographical names (it might be worth asking on the talk page). Grutness...wha? 00:24, 12 Jun 2005 (UTC)

— Thanks, answered on the nonsense-words's talk page. ←#6  talk 17:28, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Love (band)

[edit]

What's your problem with the neutrality of the article Love (band)? Discussion page was blank. Thanks Jolomo 28 June 2005 17:11 (UTC)

VALIS

[edit]

Hey, 6, thanks for the answer about VALIS and the advice. I haven't actually heard that Cassandra Complex song, as I only have a couple of their earlier tapes. Allow me to test the tilde thing out. Folkor July 2, 2005 16:00 (UTC)

Apology

[edit]

Hello, 6. I wish to apologise for this edit which you correctly reverted. I did it when I was an RC-patrol newbie. At the time I thought the edit I was deleting was mischievous after examining other edits from the same troublesome IP; I was in error. I consider myself firmly rapped on the knuckles. I assure you I'm not a deletionist. I won't do it again. --RobertGtalk 4 July 2005 09:07 (UTC)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Rob Dougan 2003 promo FA09.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Chowbok 01:24, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Rob_Dougan_2003_Furious_Angels_cover.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Rob_Dougan_2003_Furious_Angels_cover.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. –Dream out loud (talk) 03:34, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
