Sphinx Dating

Mr. Brown, I noticed the foofaraw over Sphinx dating/deletions. The point you want to include is controversial; it's at odds with academic orthodoxy. In my experience here I've found that controversial viewpoints are least likely to be deleted if they're:

1. Firmly attributed to someone else
2. Not at the top of the article.

I'd recommend adding a note somewhere towards the bottom, along the lines of "Recently, Prof. So-and-so has argued, based on geological research, for a considerably older dating of the Sphinx than previously thought in his book Sphinx Dating for Fun and Profit." Keep it short and punchy, then put something in =References= or =External Links= for more information. That way it's a lot harder to justify outright deletion. Hope this helps. Try to Google for some hard information from a geology site. Get the author's name and book title that started the fuss. Not a New Age tabloid-from-the- checkout-counter kind of website, of which there are many. The Sphinx attracts clowns, so everyone is wary. Well-presented material is worth it's own subsection at Sphinx. Hearsay is not good enough to remain in the entry for long. Wetman 05:34, 14 Jul 2004 (UTC)
