Everything was Archived[edit]

I've been AWOL from wikipedia since my change of religous affiliations, and some of the discussions were a year old, so I archived it all.--Josiah 02:42, July 10, 2005 (UTC)

Name change[edit]

You have to petition a developer to do so. You might start by asking User:Cecropia what to do, he knows more about it. Jayjg (talk) 17:57, 10 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I think there is now a beurocrat function in "special pages". See Angela's post on the Wikinews e-mail.Dovi 18:34, July 10, 2005 (UTC)
Hi Dovi, it's been a long time since I've been active in Wikipedia and I don't remember where to subscribe to the Wikinews emails or where they can be found online. Could you point me to the right place?--Josiah 03:20, July 11, 2005 (UTC)
[1]. By the way, the "votes for undeletion" page seems to be a place where nothing ever gets undeleted. It may have been a mistake to move it there so fast, before getting a number of votes.Dovi 03:41, July 11, 2005 (UTC)

Question regarding Orthodoxy and Karaism[edit]

Yoshiah,

I've read in many places that Karaites are considered by the State of Israel to be Jews, and that for Karaites to convert to Orthodox Judaism, there need not be a token circumcision, since they are already recognized to be Jews. My question is: What happens if a Gentile converts to Karaite Judaism, and lives as a Karaite for a number of years, observing all of the customs and holidays; and later, he decides to become an Orthodox Jew? Does he need to go through the conversion process, or is it simply like the other Karaites; namely, discussing the differences between both traditions, and taking a vow of loyalty to Orthodoxy?

Hope to hear from you. Yogensha 18:11, 29 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

He/She would have to be recognized by the UKJ in Israel (the governing body of Karaites in Israel) to be recognized as a Convert. If that happened, he or she would be able to make aliyah.--Josiah 03:52, August 1, 2005 (UTC)

Josiah,

I have been unable to find much information on the UKJ. It seems that they don't have a presence online, and the little information I've been able to obtain has been documents given by the Orah Saddiqim and other similar congregations. Is there any material which they have published on subjects of this nature which I can obtain? I have recently emailed Hakham Nehemiah Gordon about this matter, so hopefully he can provide me with more information.

Thanks again, Yogensha 22:46, 2 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

There are no sources that I know of. I know you mean well, but this is really not a subject I would like to discuss since I no longer affiliate with that movement. Thanks--Josiah 00:01, August 8, 2005 (UTC)

I affiliate with no religion, and yet I'm not afraid to discuss any of them. In fact, I'm a student of religion and philosophy. If we discussed and studied only what we happen to accept, then we'd surely be deficient in many areas.

I'm just waiting to see what you'll be saying after a group of "Karaites Jews for Judaism" grabs hold to you as did the previous group. *LOL*

Deleting frivolous Jewish categories[edit]

Hi Yoshiah: Kindly take a look at Wikipedia:Categories for deletion/Log/2005 November 25#Sub-Categories of Jewish people. This area needs some cut-backs again. IZAK 03:33, 25 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

This FAC is being opposed by a POV pusher who has consistantly tried to downplay Jewish contributions to history (while simultaneously shrugging off or sweeping under the rug Muslim atrocities against Jews and others, see, e.g., al-Andalus and Banu Qurayza). Please review the article when you are able and weigh in on the FAC page as you feel appropriate. Briangotts (Talk) (Contrib) 05:56, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I have rewritten the articles on all the Hebrew letters here and before I replace the pages, your input would be appreciated. Thanks! Sputnikcccp 16:25, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject LDS[edit]

Hello! I noticed you were on the list of members in the LDS WikiProject, and I was wondering if you were still interested in helping out there. You see, over the past few months, it appears that it has slowly drifted into inactivity. But you CAN help. Please consider doing both of the following:

  1. Take ONE thing form the To-Do list and do it. Once you're done with it, remove it from the list, and from the<>{{Template:LDSprojectbox}}<>, so we know its done. Keep the page on your watchlist. We have a backlog going for more than half a year. Please help to work on it, and remove it.
  2. Vote on the LDSCOTF, and work on it!
  3. Tell your friends (esp. LDS friends, & esp. Wikipedian friends) about this WikiProject, and enocourage them to join (and be active).

Remember: your involvement in this WikiProject is just that - involvement! Please help us out.

(Note: I'm sending this out to everyone who's name was on the membership list, so I will NOT be watching this page for a response. If you want to contact me, do it on MY talk page, please.)

Thanks for all that you do -Trevdna 15:45, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ancient-paths - Yoshi[edit]

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Calgary McCall.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Image source problem with Image:Tzitzit.jpg[edit]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Tzitzit.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 13:03, 5 November 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 13:03, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Chet miller wreck.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Chet miller wreck.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 10:25, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Research survey invitation[edit]

Greetings Yoshiah ap-

My name is Randall Livingstone, and I am a doctoral student at the University of Oregon, studying digital media and online community. I am posting to invite you to participate in my research study exploring the work of Wikipedia editors who are members of WikiProject: Countering Systemic Bias. The online survey should take 20 to 25 minutes to complete and can be found here:

https://oregon.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_cSHzuwaQovaZ6ss

Your responses will help online communication researchers like me to better understand the collaborations, challenges, and purposeful work of Wikipedia editors like you. In addition, at the end of the survey you will have the opportunity to express your interest in a follow-up online interview with the researcher.

This research project has been reviewed and approved by the Wikimedia Research Committee as well as the Office for Protection of Human Subjects at the University of Oregon. For a detailed description of the project, please visit its Meta page. This survey is voluntary, and your confidentiality will be protected. You will have the choice of using your Wikipedia User Name during the research or creating a unique pseudonym. You may skip any question you choose, and you may withdraw at any time. By completing the survey, you are providing consent to participate in the research.

If you have any questions about the study, please contact me via my Talk Page (UOJComm) or via email. My faculty advisor is Dr. Ryan Light. If you have any questions regarding your rights as a research participant, please contact the Office for Protection of Human Subjects at the University of Oregon.

Thank you very much.

Sincerely,

Randall Livingstone School of Journalism & Communication University of Oregon UOJComm (talk) 18:48, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Nomination of Nehemia Gordon for deletion[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Nehemia Gordon is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Nehemia Gordon until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Huon (talk) 23:47, 8 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Sefer Zadok has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No sources (jstor search among others) seem to exist documenting that Sefer Zadok exists or that anyone believed it existed. The article has no references and no links to it exist from other Wikipedia articles.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
