Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Charles Cingolani

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I don't think this person is encyclopedic (ext. links go to a geocities site, indicating probably self-published), and it was created by User:Charles Cingolani. I've left a friendly message on his talk page, as it was his first contribution, but this should be deleted. [[User:Meelar|Meelar (talk)]] 14:47, 2004 Aug 2 (UTC)

It appears he's a published author, though I've not heard of any of the books listed. I don't know what the rules/ettiquette concerning self-publication are, since I'm a newbie to Wikipedia editing. If the article was rewritten into better prose (it seems too much like a CV to me), and people were interested in the person (anyone studying the books he wrote, for example), I think it may be acceptable, but if it has breached any rules I'm not aware of, then I would have no objection to its deletion Darksun 14:59, 2 Aug 2004 (UTC)

This is an opportunity to user dpbsmith's Amazon.com Sales Rank: first is of 1,070,328 [1] "If we assume that no more than half the articles in Wikipedia should be articles about specific book titles, then we should restrict ourselves to a maximum of 317457/2 books = currently about 160,000. Therefore we should not consider a book sufficiently notable for inclusion unless its Amazon sales rank exceeds 160,000. dpbsmith (talk) 19:55, 1 Aug 2004 (UTC)" -- So this book is not notable, and I strongly suspect vanity. • Comment: Books are available at Amazon (UK). [2] --[[User:Bodnotbod|bodnotbod ......TALKQuietly)]] 15:04, Aug 2, 2004 (UTC)

  • on the basis of the evidence provided, sounds like vanity. The article as is also contains no clues as to in what way the works listed are notable (sales, critical acclaim etc.). Amazon is an online book catalog, Wikipedia is not. Delete.--Ianb 23:05, 2 Aug 2004 (UTC)
