Fag[edit]

Restoring vandalism/personal attack for posterity. It was so lovely.

Listen, fag. nobody cares about you. you have nothing better to do than police this site day and night, i love it. (i have a problem at school where i have nothing to do, so i harrass your site) die :)

Dear Deathphoenix
Since I cannot find your email address, I have to resort to contacting your here. I would like to point out that my link www.taxibus.org.uk which you decided to remove from the carpool page was highly relevant to that page, not spam. My web site painstakingly details a groundbreaking and patent-pending carpool/taxibus transport idea that I am currently seeking funds to develop. My taxibus concept can dramatically reduce road traffic levels, which in turn, will greatly reduce urban air pollution, as well as CO2 emissions.
Gaia really needs innovative ideas like this.
Please could you consider putting my link back.
Many thanks.

taxibus[edit]

Dear Deathphoenix

Can you explain, then, why you leave the highly commercial web site www.ecolane.com web site, offering a transport system very similar to my taxibus concept, untouched?

I suggest you keep both mine and their web site links present. Ecolane currently have developed and have for sale a fully working transport system. My site is very idealogically based, since it freely offers the idea to anyone interested in developing this Earth-saving system. Hence my site is .org, not .com My site is run just be me, whereas Ecolane is a start-up company.

Sure, the implementation of my idea will require commerical enterprise. But what non-commercial means are there for realising such an idea? Think about it...

We are talking about preventing global warming here; let's hope your officious actions don't contribute to our planet's climatic demise. The same goes for the US president's shortsightedness.

IGT is an idea, not a product[edit]

IGT is an idea, not a product

My web site www.taxibus.org.uk, which explains my Intelligent Grouping Transportation (IGT) concept, does not offer any commercial product. There is no product there. It is just a pure idea. What is written there on my site is everything there is. I have no product for sale, no company, no office, no budget, no financial backing. This taxibus idea was initially developed and conceptually expanded by me.

As far as I can see, there is no difference between the pure conceptual idea of this revolutionary urban transport methodology, and say, explaining the idea of a quantum computer, which if ever built in the future may solve some currently intractable problems of mathematics. Perhaps there is even someone somewhere who holds a patent on some facet of quantum computation, and would stand to gain if a practicable device is ever built. However, that fact alone would not preclude an entry on quantum computation in Wiki. And neither would that entry be considered commercial. At one level, a quantum computer is a pure idea, and thus merits an entry in Wiki.

Similarly, you would not preclude a Wiki article on a train, bus, or any other mode of transport. My Intelligent Grouping Transportation concept is precisely that: a specific mode of transport, albeit a brand new and highly revolutionary one.

Should IGT be fortunate enough to ever gain commercial backing, I obviously wouldn't dream of putting any links to a commercial taxibus operation in Wikipedia, thus polluting its pure knowledge content. But the IGT taxibus concept is just that: pure concept; pure knowledge.

Anyway, I will leave it to your judgement which site my site lies on the pure idea / commercial product fence.

Perhaps I should write a whole entry in Wiki expounding upon my Intelligent Grouping Transportation concept. What do you think? As I say, IGT is first and foremost a concept. In the future, one or more commercial enterprises may wish to build it. But even then, the pure concept of IGT would still merit an entry in Wiki.

Call to Action[edit]

Whereas, much good discussion and work has previously occured on the Barnstar and award proposal page,

Whereas, the level of discussion and progress on the abovementioned page has dropped to a record level of none; no constructive commments have been made on existing awards since May 17, 2005,

Whereas, many "Vote or Die!" have been left open, namely two, as a result of this lack of discussion,

Whereas, nine proposals lie untouched by Wikipedian hands,

Whereas, you have previously commented and helped on the abovementioned page,

Therefore, I, who have absolutely no command in ordering this whatsoever, instruct you, Deathphoenix/Archive2, to return to the barnstar commitment and further the creation of Wikipedian awards; vote liberally and spread your constructive comments.

My RFA: Thanks![edit]

Hi Deathphoenix! Thanks for supporting my RFA! Sjakkalle (Check!) 13:37, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Hello! I've noticed your past interest in Wikipedia:Mind Benders and wanted to share the following announcement with you! I've taken over the responsibilities of Mind Benders, and the page will now be regularly updated. Right now, the pre-round is open (it's more of a creative artistic competition), and round one will open soon (the questions are done, we just need to wait for the pre-round to begin/finish)! So why not check it out? I'll keep you updated! Thanks, Flcelloguy | A note? | Desk 01:42, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)

P.S. Feel free to pass this news on to other Wikipedians.

Hello! I've noticed your interest in creating logos, barnstars, or your past artistic ability! Thus, I just wanted to let you know that the pre-round, an artistic competition, is now open at Wikipedia:Mind Benders (Shortcut: WP:MIND)! The competition is open to everyone and is seeking a logo/trophy, similar to Barnstars, to be placed on every winner's page. We urge you to help us out and submit an entry! Afterwards, the normal rounds, each consisting of ten or more fun, logical, brain-stimulating questions will open. Why don't you give it a try when it opens! Look forward to seeing your contribution. Thanks, Flcelloguy | A note? | Desk 21:58, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)

So maybe I was a bit quick on the delete button. Even though it was speedied by someone else earlier (I found it in the deletion log), the user recreated it numerous times with exactly the same content. I guess, I'd better inform them of what good stubs contain, before I repeatedly delete something again. Thanks for the notification. - Mgm|(talk) 17:43, Jun 22, 2005 (UTC)

Have updated by User:Ta bu shi da yu page. Hope you enjoy :-) Ta bu shi da yu 1 July 2005 05:09 (UTC)

I agree the Miller page should have both pro and con viewpoints, but the recent anonymous post was over the top. Consider:

Many feel that Miller has ignored the needs of surburban commuters to focus upon his support base in the downtown core. A good example was the $235 million (CDN) in road repairs held up in 2005, while spending was diverted towards unimportant projects such as homeless shelters and other community works.

I don't think we need to take this guy seriously. Even on the level of factual accuracy, he doesn't come off as particularly convincing. CJCurrie 2 July 2005 02:45 (UTC)

Drow eye colour in Drizzt Do'Urden[edit]

Hey JA, are you sure that the normal drow eye colour is red in the visual spectrum? I thought their eyes only glowed red in the dark (when using infravision). I haven't seen any other indications of typical drow eye colour. Cheers, --Deathphoenix 20:47, 13 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Their eyes are normally red in the visual spectrum. They only glow, however, when using infravision. (When they glow, their eyes are still red of course.) That is how R.A. Salvatore depicts them, anyway. I'm not sure if all authors do. Jarlaxle 20:56, July 13, 2005 (UTC)

Hiya[edit]

Since we seen to be thinking along the same lines on Half-Blood Prince, I thought I'd say hello and well-met!

Telsa 13:38, 19 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. It's not that I want to cut unnecessarily! I throughly enjoy the books, and would like to see good articles on them. It's more that, as you say, we have a gigantic chapter-by-chapter summary elsewhere, and this is an article about the book. For comparison, I have been having a look at the different summaries of The Chronicles of Narnia. They vary hugely, but even their most detailed summaries don't approach the level that Half-Blood Prince keeps reaching. I think something more on the level of Prince Caspian or The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is appropriate at the moment. Until the entire series is released, we can't really say what is important.
Similarly, I think we need to stand back a little before we start claiming that some of the perceived errors are a result of Rowling making a mistake. They may be; or they may be plot points...
Telsa 14:07, 19 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Bemused[edit]

I don't get it. What's attracting the anons to the Wing warping article? Its hardly even proper vandalism, just lots of odd little edits. Is it because the Wright brothers are a staple topic for school homework in the US. -- Solipsist 14:00, 19 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I posted to the mailing list, but never thought to write to the village pump, for some reason. It's because HowStuffWorks listed wing warping as its example for their "How Wikis Work" article, which you can find here. It would be nice if the authors of these pieces could warn Wikipedia before they do this, but that's life, I guess. Most of the anons are pretty good-faith (not surprising, given HowStuffWorks' usual readership), but yeah, that article's attracted a lot of other edits too. It would be nice if they would actually link to the Sandbox article instead. --Deathphoenix 14:05, 19 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks that's good to know. On the plus side, now I am famous. On the down side, I guess we will keep getting these little edits for some time to come. But at least it should bring in some editors - I'll just have to remember to be on my best behaviour and especially avoid biting newcommers on that page. -- Solipsist 16:36, 19 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

JMBell[edit]

Hi. Just so you know, Sir James is (or was) JMBell. I have a feeling someone may have gotten hold of his password. It may be appropriate to block him; I don't know. I have sent him an email. Cheers, smoddy 16:41, 21 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I blocked it; it was on a blanking spree, and since I couldn't figure out what the heck was going on, I felt the safe thing to do was to have a 24 hour block. Between the redirects to JMBell's page, the edit history at User:Sir James and everything else, I couldn't figure out what was going on. But since JMBell claims to have left on July 3rd, it looked like a compromised password to me. -- Essjay · Talk 17:00, July 21, 2005 (UTC)

kharmini91[edit]

deathphoenix, I didn't delete content nor vandalize nor add spoilers. When I went to the article for Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, someone HAD vandalized and replaced the article with "Dumbledore dies." so I reverted the article back to the last saved proper one from the history. I hope I didn't do anything wrong. Kharmini91 21:28, 21 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

re: Firefox Extension: Word count?[edit]

Your edit summary: Current word count: 310 >> 312 (counted using a Firefox extension so should be faultless)

Hi Garrett, which extension is that? I tried looking for it, but haven't been able to find it. I've been copying & pasting into TextPad, but it would be very handy to use a Firefox word counter. Thanks, --Deathphoenix 13:48, 21 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It's called, unsurprisingly, Word Count, but it's not on the central extensions index for some reason. Note that it does not work in edit boxes (like this one) for some reason. Anyway, enjoy! :) GarrettTalk 23:07, 21 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

HP inuse[edit]

Terribly sorry, I did not know that there was a time limit. I am trying to write out a longer and more precise summary, seeing that the author of that one only took the trouble to write the ending and beginning. I was wondering how to do this, other than tediously typing a one-line summry into Notepad (my computer unfortunately has no Word) and copying it, if I am not allowed to occupy the editspace for more than 90 minutes. It is difficult to edit in Notepad, you know, especially if what you want to edit is in the middle of the one, albeit long line. H.J.Potter 18:19, 25 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

As an aside, I was wondering if you treat all new users to the same deterring skepticism you treated me to - it's a powerful repellant, if that's what you're trying to accomplish. I just hope you can learn to use the benefit of the doubt so that we can collaborate peacefully. Cheers - H.J.Potter 18:50, 25 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It's possible, that some people are encountering a slight problem with the editor that makes it necessary for the to do this. I have such a problem Whenever I edit an article, I MUST insert a double space between paragraphs. If I don't, it is all posted as one single run-on paragraph. Bringing Wikipedia to Toronto[edit]

I've been working on a bid to bring Wikimania 2006 to Toronto. I have contacted KMDI, an institute at the University of Toronto. They are very interested in partnering with us, and can get us a full range of U of T facilities for free. With this offer I think there is a very good chance of bringing Wikimania 2006 to Toronto. The only thing we currently lack are people willing to help out. I'm willing to do much of the work, but for the time being I am in Ottawa and having some people on the ground in Toronto will be necessary. We also need a number of people willing to assist at the actual event, likely the first weekend of August 2006. If you are interested in helping out sign up at Wikimania 2006/Toronto. Preliminary bids from various cities need to be made by Sept. 30, 2005, at which point a committee will choose which city gets to host the event. The number of people willing to help will certainly be an important consideration. - SimonP 16:23, September 6, 2005 (UTC)

Ah, my first ever spam mass produced and mailed to the spamlist. Well first of all let me re-state that we have an irc channel, #wp-esperanza, and its been rather empty, so I'd appreciate it if you come, even if you just idle about. Now, the evil polls have closed, and I left a justification note for running the evil polls. Nothing has really changed, but at least I have somewhat of a consensus. I hope to figure out a way to overturn my power to JCarriker somehow, I'll figure out a way :-) Meanwhile, I've been busy reforming the mediation system where I am the chairman now, er, acting chairman. It has been announced that there will be a half hour meeting on the Wikimania IRC channel tomorrow October 2, at 20:00 UST (4:00 pm EST) to pick the 3 city shortlist. It would be great if you could attend. Also these are our last hours to ensure that our bid at Wikimania_2006/Toronto is as good as it can be, so any improvements to it would also be useful. There are now four cities in the running, so tomorrow one is getting cut. - SimonP 20:52, 1 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

well, for what its worth, my initial reaction was that two articles about Ollivander was one too many about essentially the same thing. (that was written assuming you do also have the one entitled Mr Ollivander listed) Sandpiper

I like having a mention under Diagon Alley, where it should be listed, and I like having a separate article specifically about him/his shop. I don't like splitting the information in two places. These likes and dislikes contradict, unfortunately. Sandpiper 07:34, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
