I am an early childhood education student, not a speech and language pathologist so I'd appreciate some professional input on this page. I have done some research though, and I have more material I want to post and I will as soon as I can. So please don't delete it yet!

It is looking great. Don't worry that you can't be the expert. You're just laying the foundations for further work, and everything can be improved. No doubt it will be you doing the improvement as you develop as a professional educator. Jasonnolan 22:33, 15 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Improvements[edit]

Speech & language pathology is a budding profession. At least here in the UK the use of speech & language assessment is continuously being expanded. The article should be updated by someone with an SLP background. Anyone? JFW | T@lk 13:17, 26 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I have added some content and will return later with more revisions (I'm a speech and language therapist) --BigFatBadger 22:41, 12 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Merge[edit]

This article basically deals with the same issues as Speech-Language Pathology -Celendin

Agree w/ above. Would like to see something other than long bullet lists to delineate scope of practice after they are merged.

Merge some more ???[edit]

Let's bring Speech therapy into the mix too. With redirects of course --Slp1 23:00, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Agree. Looks like there's quite a bit of overlap/redundancy between all three articles. The only question is which one is the most appropriate title to which the others should redirect? Would appreciate input from those in the field.

Well I am in the field, but this "appropriate title" thing may be a minefield. In countries of the English speaking world the profession is called by many different variations of a theme:

Australia: Speech pathology

Canada: speech-language pathology

Ireland: Speech and Language Therapy

New Zealand: Speech-Language Therapy

South Africa: Speech Language Therapy

United Kingdom: Speech and Language Therapy

United States: speech-language pathology

My suggestion (as someone who has worked in various countries under various titles) would be to go with something like Speech and Language Pathology, so that no country "wins" hands down! --Slp1 12:20, 27 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The correct title used in most countries is Speech-Language Pathology. It is also sometimes written as Speech/Language Pathology. www.asha.org
