Welcome!

Hello, Jcsherwood1950, Welcome to Wikipedia!
I hope you like working here and want to continue. If you need help on how to name new articles, look at Naming Conventions, and for help on formatting the pages visit the Manual of Style. If you need general help, look at Help and the FAQ, and if you can't find your answer there, check the Village pump (for Wikipedia related questions) or the Reference Desk (for general questions). There's still more help at the Tutorial and the Policy Library. Also, don't forget to visit the Community Portal — and if you have any more questions after that, feel free to post them on my New-Users' Talk Page.

Here are some extra tips to help you get around Wikipedia:
  • If you made any edits before you got an account, you might be interested in assigning those to your username.
  • If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills, try the Sandbox.
  • Click on the Edit button on a page, and look at how other editors did what they did.
  • You can sign your name using three tildes, like this: ~~~. If you use four, you can add a datestamp too. Always sign comments on Talk pages, never sign Articles.
  • You might want to add yourself to the New User Log
  • If your first language isn't English, try Wikipedia:Contributing to articles outside your native language
Happy editing!

Hi John![edit]

Glad to see you here. (I assume you are the John Sherwood I've known for years from the ACCIFC. If not, forgive the intrusion....) I'm adding a welcome template someone gave me that I have found helpful.

Cheers, Bill Wheaton AKA Wwheaton (talk) 21:59, 12 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Bill![edit]

Yes, it's me. I had some time to kill and wandered to this page after watching the episode I described. Hope you're well and busy!

Problems on Childhood's End[edit]

John, editor Steve Quinn has really mangled the plot summary to CE, in edits on April 27. I simply cannot understand where he is coming from. I have been inattentive for a few weeks, and failed to catch it. Now it cannot be reverted (due to conflicts with later edits) and must be rewritten. Can you please verify my read on this, and join in the fray if we get into a conflict over it (as seems inevitable, based on his edit summaries). He seems to be an experienced editor. Tell me if I have gone crazy myself.... I suppose I have to go back and study the text again. Thanks. Bill Wwheaton (talk) 22:16, 7 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I just left a note on Quinn's talk page, hoping for a peaceful solution. I'm thinking he may only have read the revised, post 1989, introduction, but I don't know. Wwheaton (talk) 23:41, 7 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

And now I have a nice note back from Quinn, and it seems clear that we were working from different editions of CE, with the new and old (pre & post 1989) introductions. He is younger, and probably overlooked the possibility entirely. I should have known better, but somehow I only looked at his edit summaries and talk page comments from 4/27, without doing a cf on his text. So we are friends, and I am not quite crazy. I think we have to put in two subsections at the beginning of the plot summary, outlining the two variations. You might want to keep an eye on this process, but I think things are no longer in crisis. I'll try to take a stab at patching it up over the weekend, though I have to get part of a proposal out in the next day or two. Thanks! Bill Wwheaton (talk) 03:52, 8 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
