Winter rat

"Winter rat" is by no means a neologism. I am 48 years old, and I have know the term and its meaning for most of my life. I also know that it has spread beyond the Syracuse, NY area throughout the Great Lakes region and into northern New England. It is an old, established term, understood throughout the Northeastern quadrant of the United States. There are tens of millions of people who know perfectly well what a "winter rat" is. A Wikipedia entry would be helpful to someone from, say, Southern California, who might have an experiential barrier to grasping the term.

Howdy. I realize now that it's not a neologism, but dictionary definitions aren't really appropriate for Wikipedia. However, you might consider making an entry at Wiktionary, Wikipedia's sister project. In fact, one of the possible results of a VfD discussion is Transwiki. Based on what you've told me, I am reconsidering my vote – I may have been a bit hasty. You are welcome to comment at the VfD discussion.

You might want to read this guide to the process. It's a bit long; the important things you might want to know about are: 1) the "Votes" part is a bit of a misnomer; it's more about having a discussion to generate consensus on an article; and 2) votes from anonymous users or users with short edit histories are generally discounted. Don't let that discourage you from making your case, though.

If you plan to continue contributing to Wikipedia, might I suggest that you create an account? There are many benefits described here. Fabius Bile

Well I did not realize it was a copyright violation and thought it was in the bounds of their IP policy but on closer review it seems I was wrong. I would like an opportunity to start fresh and create a new article about Fabius Bile. I also took the liberty to erase the info on the Ahriman article and will rework that one as well. • No problem. I've got a set of templates that I use that makes tagging socks and low-edits pretty easy. There are a crazy number of socks coming out to support this article, though. It's not in "History" anymore. Haven't been able to find it again. There were other entries in history that have been removed as well. I specifically remember voting "REMOVE" when I came upon the article. The votes were in favor of "REMOVE" back then with just a couple of KEEPs. Ariele 12:38, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)
