Image copyright problem with Image:Seiklus.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Seiklus.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Cold Mountain[edit]

Could you please explain why we need two copies of the same article? --Hetar 02:14, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I merely changed the articles for Cold Mountain around by adding an article for the novel and a disambig page for both. I didn't know how else to do it, but I think I got the job done... Sorry if I've made a mistake, I'm new at this sorta stuff. --Ben Tibbetts 02:16, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Generally speaking we try to avoid disambiguation pages, as they simply create more loops for users to hop through. Most users who search for this, will probably be looking for the film, so it would make more sense just to put a simpe disambiguation sentence at the front of that article. In fact, there is a whole project dedicated to removing links to disambiguation pages at WP:DPL. While you created a page for the Cold Mountain (novel), and the Cold Mountain (film), you have now left Cold Mountain floating in lost space. I will fix this. --Hetar 02:22, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, happy editing :) --Hetar 02:32, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:Tedsannella.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Tedsannella.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 03:06, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

(grumbles) Yeah yeah yeah, I'll get right on it. :) Ben Tibbetts 03:10, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Recent additions[edit]

Some of your recent additions are a little thin on the ground and need expanding. You might want to do a little more research and beef them up before you post anymore new content --Tmorton166 23:57, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies I didn't mean it offensively. Yes creating the stubs is great but if they are stubs it is a good idea to put the stub tag on them when you post so that people konw they are incomplete. That is what I meant to say yesterday but I was tired and ended up picking up 2 of your pages in a row to add stub tags so I ranted a bit ;) I do apologise :D -- Tmorton166 (Errant Emote)  talk 23:46, 18 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Witold Rudzinski[edit]

The temp page is fine. Info can't be directly copied, it has to be summarized and then sourced. Thank you for the note. --MZMcBride 01:29, 21 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

All your stub said was, "Fred Hopkins (1947-1999) was a double bassist". There was no attempt at establishing his notability. The current stub is fine. User:Zoe|(talk) 17:19, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

G'day/Strahan Airport/Geography[edit]

OOps small edit here: If you are english "good evening", north american (either variety) "G'day", or any of the other lesser english speaking locations.. "bonza day eh chaps!", and if you are indeed a non english native speaker (???) "g'day Ime a monolingual ozzie, what are ya?"

Greetings from somewhere else than strahan airport (arrgh what a bloody cold and windy place it can be too at this time of the year) - I can see your objection to the geography stub if it was in actual fact "geographical feature" in one topographical sense (in which case it should be identified as such? yes?) however if we are cartographic about it - that is looking for features that are of regional importance in transportation/economic/social sense (which my university level geography insisted was what such feature would be due to its importance to strahan and hinterland) then there is no case against it. try google earth (and what a lousy level of detail we get on the west coast unless we are 10km or above!) and it is a feature cartographically/logistically, but if you're getting your bum frozen by the salt spray from ocean beach just west - you wouldnt even know if was there and probably wouldnt care anyway? Logistically the airport can mean life or death to locals where medical facilities on the west coast are insufficient, and notability or topographical importance to a damaged timber worker or fisherman is totally irrelevent - its there, and thats what counts! SatuSuro 01:39, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies. Re-iteration. It is a vital link to the outside world for locals in emergency. It is not a topgraphical feature, as it is part of the area behind the ocean beach sand dunes and doesnt show up from a perspective of someone walking /driving around the area. It is a transport feature - which in some forms of academic geography is a vital element in the landscape, it features on maps and satellite photos, and it is one of the very few on the west coast. I think it deserves a geo stub even if its meant to be a topo feature onlySatuSuro 01:10, 31 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I recreated the article under the belief that it has value for inclusion in Wikipedia. As you deleted it I was expanding it somewhat. It's brand new, which explains its single-editor status as of yet. Ben Tibbetts 20:15, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I see that someone has suggested that it be merged with List of Internet slang. I think that this would be a suitable compromise between losing the definition and keeping it and thousands of others as discrete articles. The age of the article and the number of editors is not in consideration in terms of Wikipedia not being a dictionary.  (aeropagitica)  (talk)  20:21, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with the merge. Sounds good, thank you. Ben Tibbetts 20:22, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The problem is, the program wasn't remotely notable. This isn't freshmeat; it's not a place to list every program that has ever existed. You have to establish notability, and the stub that I deleted made no attempt whatsoever. --Golbez 18:08, 10 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:Basketball ball.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Basketball ball.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BigDT 15:09, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Windsor Memorial Baptist Church[edit]

I've added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Windsor Memorial Baptist Church, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree, discuss the issues raised at Talk:Windsor Memorial Baptist Church. If you remove the {{dated prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Image:AHD.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:AHD.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Orphaned fair use image (Image:Ben tibbetts productions logo.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Ben tibbetts productions logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 20:38, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Ben Tibbetts. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:Ben tibbetts productions logo.jpg) was found at the following location: User:Ben Tibbetts. This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media was replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 01:28, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Abate.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Abate.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Spoiler tags[edit]

I removed your addition of the spoiler tag to Cold Mountain (novel) and Snow Falling on Cedars. You may not be aware of it, but spoiler tags are now largely discouraged because of WP:SPOILER, which states that "Spoiler warnings are usually redundant when used to cover an entire "Plot" or "Synopsis" heading." There was a large, mass removal of spoiler tags from most fictional works articles, including novels, a while back. I just thought you should be aware of the guideline for future reference. Andrew Boysen deletion[edit]

Hi Ben. My main concern was with the term "a major music competition", specifically, the word "major". Simply winning any competition is not justification on its own for inclusion in an encyclopedia. For the three competitions given in the article, I searched on Google to look for references which would establish them as legitimately "major" competitions. I found few references to the first two other than people claiming to have won them; they certainly don't seem to qualify as "major". The third (IHSCC) has many references online, but I somewhat question if a contest involving pieces composed for just one specific instrument can be considered "major". Thoughts? 1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast 19:26, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Miltonberle.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Miltonberle.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Podkapova (talk) 04:19, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Lostonamountaininmaine.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Lostonamountaininmaine.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 18:07, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Daveholland.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Daveholland.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Peplowski.jpg, which you've sourced to http://www.peterboroughjazzclub.co.uk/Gallery.html. I noticed that that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the image (or other media file) agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the GFDL or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the image to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the image has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the image's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. Thank you for experimenting with Wikipedia. Your test worked, and the page that you created has been or soon will be deleted. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Proposed deletion of Naomi Aho[edit]

The article Naomi Aho has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

no evidence whatever of notability; appears to be pure self-promotion

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Deb (talk) 22:07, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your upload of File:Alanlakein.jpg or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.

This notification is placed on your talk page because a bot has identified you either as the uploader of the file, or as a contributor to its metadata. It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks! Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Argei (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
  • disambiguates zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
  • is an orphaned redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.
