What is this   I keep seeing in articles?[edit]

inserts a non-breaking space in the article text. When you view the page, a space will be inserted everywhere an   exists. A non-breaking space will not be broken at the end of a line, whereas a regular space will.

Non-breaking spaces are important in the automotive articles. Nearly all measurements use them so that the measure and the units aren't broken across lines.

Images[edit]

May I upload an image that I found on a website?[edit]

In general, no. Most images found on the web are copyrighted and cannot be used without a release from the copyright owner. Certain materials (such as promotional photographs published by automotive manufacturers) may qualify as fair use, but we prefer nonpromotional images.

It is generally polite (and strongly encouraged) that you include source information on your uploaded images. A phrase saying, "this picture was taken by me on Feb. 26, 2005, and I release it under the GFDL" informs contributors at other language Wikipedias that this image is safe to use. If you don't add copyright and source information to your pages, it is very likely that you will be asked in the future where the images came from and whether they are available under the GFDL. An example release can be seen at Image:1998 toyota camry le.jpg.

Is there anything else I should know about images?[edit]

Yes! We recommend you upload images to the WikiMedia commons so that they are immediately available to all Wikipedias.

We also ask that you upload the highest-resolution images possible. The Wikipedia software will automatically scale the images when they are placed in the article.
