I am resubmitting this for peer review. I think the article is vastly improved, and the regular editors are commited to getting it up to featured status (Which it failed once). Please let us know any way we can improve upon this to reach our goal. [jon] 20:46, 27 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- Can you let us know what objections caused it to fail FAC and what has been done about those? - Taxman 19:26, Feb 1, 2005 (UTC) For posterity I found the archived FAC nomination. It will need to be moved I think if you want to renominate as a FAC.
- The only person to comment (aside from an anon IP user) said the Culture (now Arts and culture), Media, History, and Government sections were too short (although I object to the History section comment, since it had been shortened to a summary and redirected to its own page). Those have been expanded. He also said there was a lack of references, there are now 10 references (4 of them books). He also said that our page was not nearly as good as Sarajevo's, although I think it is as good, just different. --[jon] [talk] 21:00, 1 Feb 2005 (UTC)
- The Economy section rather weak; expanding it is listed as a top priority on the Talk page to-do list, and I would certainly concur. Surely accent isn't the only reason call centers in Salt Lake are so prevalent. Lower than average business costs probably plays a role. What else? Is the "seasonal tourism" just winter skiing? Does summer tourism to the famous Utah national parks bring significant traffic to Salt Lake? Utah is home to a number of technology companies, although a lot no longer exist and/or aren't in Salt Lake; I'm surprised that technology isn't a larger part of the Salt Lake economy. Finally, being the capital of Utah and headquarters of the LDS church, I suspect both provide a significant number of jobs in Salt Lake. I don't know the answers; just some food for thought. - 1) Ok, more needs to be mentioned about other recreation in the area. The area is a draw for much more than just skiing. Lots of people move to Salt lake to be close to hiking, rock climbing, and other outdoor activities and because they can get a good job in the valley. From working in Salt Lake for a summer and talking to many people there, the contingent of people moving from other areas and even states for all of the outdoor activites made up a significant portion of the non-LDS people in Salt Lake City. That was my impression and what most people seemed to feel. 2) I agree the economy section needs expansion. Maybe the technology jobs aren't really in Salt lake City itself, but is there some? I know the area in general is heavily tech driven. 3) The article has way too many one sentence paragraphs making it look unpolished and unfinished. They should either be merged with related material or expanded to be on their own. - Taxman 18:08, Feb 9, 2005 (UTC)
- I have a query about this sentence: "Despite all this, the games were a success, being one of the few to make a profit." What defines a "success"? The sentence implies that a succesful games is a profitable games, but I disagree! I thought the Olympic Games was meant to foster a sense of cooperation between nations, distill a sense of pride in the achievement of a nation's athletes and promote a sense of sportsmanship between athletes (not to mention allow companies make pots of money and to help athletes share performance-enhancing dr... uh, let's not go there...), etc, etc. Could we clarify what this means? - Ta bu shi da yu 02:50, 24 Feb 2005 (UTC)
