Welcome![edit]

Hi DarkSkywise, and a warm welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you have enjoyed editing as much as I did so far and decide to stay. Unfamiliar with the features and workings of Wikipedia? Don't fret! Be Bold! Here's some good links for your reference and that'll get you started in no time!

Most Wikipedians would prefer to just work on articles of their own interest. But if you have some free time to spare, here are some open tasks that you may want to help out :

  • RC Patrol - Keeping a lookout for vandalism.
  • Cleanup - Help make unreadable articles readable.
  • Requests - Wanted on WP, but hasn't been created.
  • Merge - Combining duplicate articles into one.
  • Wikiprojects - So many to join, so many to choose from...Take your pick!

Oh yes, don't forget to sign when you write on talk pages, simply type four tildes, like this: ~~~~. This will automatically add your name and the time after your comments. And finally, if you have any questions or doubts, don't hesitate to contact me on my talk page. Once again, welcome! =)

Stick horse[edit]

The image is gone. If you look carefully, you'll see that the existing image is at Wikipedia commons — you up-loaded it there too. Nothing links to it, I think. It's being considered for deletion, and I can't see any harm in letting that continue. Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 16:38, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Okay... it's just that I'm a bit worried because somebody's claiming I've released copyrigt on Horsie because it's still showing on Wikipedia which is totally bad since there's a series of Horsie books coming out next year (even though under Dutch law you can only release copyright in writing, not by clicking on anything) DarkSkywise 17:03, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)

What, are you honestly publishing a book with this thing? No offense intended, but who would buy it? Or are you printing it yourself via DocuPrint or something similar? Master Thief Garrett 22:21, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)

No, it will be a worldwide release by a pretty famous American author of children's books. See below.

Fascinating! I can see that you may very well gain some sense of fame through this, and we may need to re-add you, but for the present please remember that Wikipedia is not a crystal ball. So do not be surprised if your article is deleted... but once you're famous, we'll be having a whole different discussion! Master Thief Garrett 04:14, 24 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Actually, I don't wanna be famous... I had a short career as a muscian in Holland and I thouroughly *hated* the attention, also more than enough people know me now as the head moderator of the sixth largest Internet forum *worldwide* (yes, I can prove that too :oP ), but since so many ppl are having so much fun with "our thin blue fiend with the winning smile", I'll settle for just getting *rich* ;-P

sooooo.... did you click the links below yet? O:)

Yes, very hilarious!!! I finally understand why it has caught on, but, even so, my point still stands, not (yet!) noteworthy enough to be here. Master Thief Garrett 04:43, 24 Apr 2005 (UTC)

No problem... I really only submitted the article for all Horsie fans so they'd get a kick out of seeing their hero appear on Wiki ;-) (one of John Kerry's campaign leaders even had the Horsie Prez printed out to put it on her desk... too bad Kerry didn't win, eh?)

And besides, it's only a small problem compared to having to translate all this to Moo to a blue horse looking over my shoulder who has just put on its bestest pouty-face.

Maybe you should make Horsie an outfit too to cheer it up a bit? ;-P (rules are: it doesn't have to look professional, as long as you had fun creating it)

the StickHorsie thing[edit]

(NOTE: moved from my own talk page for ease-of-use.) No, this wasn't a joke, the drawing I first put in is the original drawing which is still used as a reference for all StickHorsie graphics and stories, only several people just threw a fit since I apparently uploaded the graphic to a "public domain"-type situation and I was only trying to get it removed! But since I couldn't delete it, I thought to replace it with a blank image, only then you put the original back on. I now replaced it with something else again (plain text), I hope you can delete all the files with the same name.

All I wanted was a small article on StickHorsie on Wikipedia because many people ARE looking around the 'net on where to get more info.

Sorry to have bothered you, as soon as the graphics gets deleted I'll be outta here.

DarkSkywise 12:50, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)

It wasn't a joke??? Oh. Well, I'm glad you've explained that. But whether or not StickHorsie belongs on Wikipedia is now the subject of a Vfd and is largely open to debate.
If you wish to change the status of content you have uploaded, you may either edit the page and re-tag it, or you could add the Copy-vio tag to the original soure (in this case, to the image page and not to the article page) and add a request for its deletion. Blanking the image won't get rid of it, it is eternally stored in the history.
The image was part of the voting context. When a Vfd tag is added, the page is supposed to go into a pseudo-locked state; you replaced the image soon after the Vfd tag was added, as if you were trying to make your article look less "silly". Due to the rules of Vfd, content MUST remain intact until the conclusion of the vote; it can be improved upon, but images and any content referred to specifically in the vote page as a point of contention MUST remain in context for the voters to view. You defied this rule, I reverted it, and you now say you have defied it again! Please do not do this again, these rules are here for a purpose. Also, more importantly, you could be percieved by those in power as attempting to pervert the opinions of the voters in your favour, and there's probably a warning notice or two that the sysops/admins would feel quite happy to slap you with for doing that!
But the image has now been fully deleted, so the sole remaining point of contention is the StickHorsie text content itself, and after a week of voting its fate will also be decided upon.
I sure hope that clears everything up! Please enjoy your stay with Wikipedia. Have a nice day. Master Thief Garrett 22:21, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Okay, let me elaborate a bit on Horsie (I'm sure you'll be as surprised as I was)

I originally made the drawing in 2001 just to give a few friends a laugh and thought "in a couple of days or weeks everybody will forget the silly thing".

Wrong.

A couple of web designers suddenly thought it was funny to design some clothes for the poor undressed equine, people started to write little poems and stories with Horsie in it, I was asked if Horsie could be used for a breast cancer awareness flyer, as a mascot for a political awareness site (politicians *do* moo a lot, don't they?), several schools in the US had "Stick Horsie drawing" contests for the youngest, Horsie was used as a means to help somebody with agoraphobia (yes, really), it was voted "International symbol of peace and good will" by a site with 32,000 members, a famous DJ had everybody wondering by putting Horsie on the "guest list" (after which it suddenly appeared on one of the pics of the concert), somebody wrote a StickHorsie walz, and yes, a prime Stargate fanfic writer approached *me* if she could use Horsie as a co-star in a multi-part story (check the comments of the readers... story's on fanfic.net, author iamdragonrider, title Moo X-Treme)

I now also have offers for a series of children's books (to be released *worldwide*) and a series of short animated movies, none of them was asked for by *me*. Apparently, Horsie has a enough of a certain "je ne sais quoi" to appeal to lots of people worldwide. So if I would ask people who really love Horsie to mail you and say so, be prepared for a pretty vast influx of mail.

(The only reason the first Horsie book isn't out yet is that I first want to use the Stargate story to see what Horsie can and can't do, so I'll have a good reference sheet for the author of the books.)

Yes, people would buy it. In fact, people have been *telling* me for over a year that there should be a book SOON. Maybe it's amazing to some that a silly drawing like this would get such a large number of avid followers (there were even 3 sites with ANTI-Horsie stuff, only I had those disabled), but then again, Mickey Mouse started out the same way, didn't he?

No, you really wouldn't want all Horsie fans to mail you. ;-þ

Besides, doesn't it look cute in itsArabian Nights oufit? Or as the next prez of the USA? And what's THIS in the grass? Coincidence? Made by Martians? (just 3 of the HUNDREDS of Horsie graphics people have made without me *ever* asking for any)

Bytheway, I *do* think the upload section should have an "oops" button. Would *you* like to have a pic of yourself in the shower on display for a full week? even though EVERYBODY, including yourself, wants it off? Thought so, yes.

Oh well, have a Moo-ry Xmas anyway (or at least a Little Horsie Swiss Roll);-þ

please *do* click on the links, they're nice illustrations of the situations people have put Horsie in in the past

Stick horse[edit]

Hi there! Regarding the sock puppetry - I'm sure that those new people appearing to vote are actually friends of yours, but that is not exactly relevant. In general, votes by anonymous or new users are discounted on VfD. This is precisely so people cannot drag in their friends in order to get an article kept. See WP:SOCK for details.

Btw please sign your posts ~~~~ on people's talk pages. Thanks.

Radiant_* 13:12, Apr 25, 2005 (UTC)

oops, sorry! *hangs head in shame for forgetting the sqiggles* DarkSkywise 13:22, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Please don't post nonsense on discussion pages, including VfD pages. They are for discussion rather than creativity. Thanks. Gazpacho 11:00, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)

if you mean the Horsie-on-the-floppy story... no creativity here, just plain facts. It was just an example of why Horsie is so important to many people and I did NOT make it up. Why should I?

(Actually, I have no idea where I was being "creative" on that page.) DarkSkywise 14:02, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)

For example, posting a 26-line poem. An occasional one-liner alongside your vote is OK, but poetry, story-telling, and chat are not what the discussion pages are for. Gazpacho
Poem wasn't posted by me, but by Kezzie. And the stories were just to illustrate why Horsie is so important to some. DarkSkywise 17:38, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Demonoid[edit]

The article has been deleted because it does not assert notability - this is one of the criteria for Speedy Deletion. To meet the inclusion standards, websites have their own guideline. In general reliable sources need to be multiple, independent and specifically about the subject itself. The article has been recreated 3 times and has now been deleted again. I have protected the location to prevent it reappearing. I would suggest that you try and recreate the content in your user space and make the article compliant with the above guidelines. Once you have done that, you can take the article to deletion review or you can drop me a line on my talk page. Spartaz Humbug! 06:23, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Demonoid is a BitTorrent tracker. It was apparently created by an anonymous Yugoslavian known only as Deimos[citation needed]. The site's indexed external torrents and Demonoid-tracked torrents are easily found on other BitTorrent search engines.

The website features a publicly accessible search engine, although membership is required to download more than 3 torrents per week or to download torrent files older than a few days. Registration traditionally opened every Friday (GMT), but plans were announced on March 3, 2007 to open registration on a monthly rather than a weekly schedule in the future. Existing users in good standing have the ability to send invitation codes to others during closed registration.

Although Demonoid removed torrents over a year old on August 4, 2006 to free tracker resources, the site has over 168,035 user submitted torrents indexed as of June 13, 2007.

Demonoid technically does not require that a good upload/download ratio be maintained by its users. If a good ratio is not maintained, Demonoid will not automatically ban the user. According to the moderators of the site, this is due to the extra resources which would be required to track all of the users' ratios, as well as the difficulty of tracking external usage. Although ratio limits are requested by many users in the site's suggestion forums, the staff of Demonoid have made it very clear that this will not happen, and discussion will not be entered into regarding this topic.

Demonoid categorizes torrents under either Anime, Applications, Audio Books, Books, Comics, Games, Miscellaneous, Movies, Music, Music Videos, Pictures, or TV. Many categories have various subcategories or divisions that allow a search to be more specific.

It features RSS technologies with different feeds for each category and sub category to keep users aware of the latest torrent posted on the site.
