• 1859 – The Atchison and Topeka Railroad Company, forerunner of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway, is chartered in Kansas.
• 1941 – The first Gold record is presented to Glenn Miller for Chattanooga Choo Choo.
• 1943 – Stuart R. Knott, president of Kansas City Southern Railway 1900-1905 (1893 map pictured), dies (b. 1859).
• 1950 – Victor V. Boatner, president of Peoria and Pekin Union Railway 1921-, Chicago Great Western Railway 1929-1931, dies (b. 1884).
