Hello and welcome to Wikipedia!

Here are some tips to help you get started:

Good luck!
Jrdioko

P.S. One last helpful hint. To sign your posts like I did above (on talk pages, for example) use the '~' symbol. To insert just your name, type ~~~ (3 tildes), or, to insert your name and timestamp, use ~~~~ (4 tildes).

I've made a svg version of the above diagram, it is listed under GFDL, would you give me permission to release vector mod. as PD? Mobius 01:32, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that's not a problem. Thanks for asking, and thanks for doing this! – Quadell (talk) (bounties) 13:10, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OA Userbox[edit]

While I do like your image better, there has been a lengthy discussion regarding the use of "fair use" images in userboxes. The short of the matter is that fair use images cannot be used in templates of any kind as per Wikipedia policy. The other question is whether the OA Arrow is "public domain" or "fair use." It has been determined that scout logos (for the most part) fall under fair use, hence they cannot be used in templates. I wish that this were not the case, but in the meantime, we are stuck with limited options. You can read more about this on the OA userbox Talk page. In the meantime, I will revert to a previous version. NThurston 15:33, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Redundant "See also" links[edit]

I saw you added "see also" links back-and-forth between DIN connector and Mini-DIN connector. Just so you know, it's against the WikiManual of Style to have "See also" links that are also contained in the body text.

I'm sure not going to revert you (because I'm on your side of this argument!) but please don't be surprised or insulted if someone else does revert your addition.

Thanks for the cleanup[edit]

Thanks for the cleanup on my image (Image:Crown_roast_of_lamb.jpg). I'm still a bit confused on the (copy)rights issue, but I'm learning. ;-)

Userbox text size[edit]

I've reverted several of your edits to some of the Ancestry userboxes. I reverted changes that you made to increase the font sizes to 10pt, seeing as nearly every userbox's text is of size 8 it would probably be best to keep with the standard (IMHO).

In any case it should be said that I have no problem whatsoever with the text size of the user boxes one your userpage. You can easily change the default template font for most info boxes by passing the 'info-s' parameter to the template which, for the template:User Welsh ancestry template would be {{User Welsh ancestry|info-s=10}}. — Mobius 08:19, 15 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I tried your suggestion -- here's what happened:
{{User Welsh ancestry|info-s=10}} {{User:Digitalme/Box/User Irish Ancestry|info-s=10}} {{user German|info-s=10}}
What do I do now? -- Jason Palpatine 10:07, 15 July 2006 (UTC) (speak your mind | contributions)[reply]
Oh, don't include those <nowiki> tags, I used those so that I could keep the wiki from drawing a userbox there. — Mobius 21:40, 15 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please discuss major changes like a new map on talk before inserting. Thanks, TewfikTalk 00:04, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Maps in DPKR nuke test[edit]

Hi. Thanks for the map - it's a nice one. That said, deciding to be bold I replaced the old geological survey picture as the article's first one and moved the site location map further down to page, to the testing site section. This was on the basis that the geological map fits the article better (being about the test instead of just the site), has more data and (minor point) is visually more impressive, suiting the prominent spot. The plain map is slightly more accurate, but drier and doesn't really say much that the other one doesn't. It fits the test site section like a glove. --Kizor 23:09, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:DLP LOGO.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:DLP LOGO.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. MECUtalk 21:51, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:ADB_Icon.svg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:ADB_Icon.svg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. The Sunshine Man 10:15, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use Image:USB Icon.svg[edit]

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:USB Icon.svg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. Image source problem with Image:BP Logo.svg[edit]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:BP Logo.svg. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 19:55, 13 September 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. If you believe you received this message in error, please notify the bot's owner. 8-pin horseshoe DIN connector[edit]

Hi! First I'd like to thank you for the excellent illustrations you created for the DIN connectors. I just found out (the hard way) that there are two different 8-pin DIN connectors. I added a note about it to the article together with a link showing photographs of both connectors. I thought that perhaps you could add an illustration for the 270° 8-pin connector.

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 18:35, 14 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:Truckbed of Corn.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Truckbed of Corn.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist.
