Removing entries by KieronH1964[edit]

24th March 2009 15:30PM

Dear Jorunn,

I'm a little disappointed that you've chosen to remove the Tobe Richards book entries I've been creating in the last day or so. I would like to make the point that I'm not Richards' Press agent or anything of the sort, it's simply a matter of working through the books by author rather than randomly. My aim was to include current listings of books on stringed instruments available to European Wikipedia readers. Entering into discussion on non-English speaking sites would have proved difficult in the extreme being a non-speaker, but I did feel I was making a positive contribution by including the information I collated in the various pages. I do realise that a lot of what gets included by non-official Wiki editors is little more than spam, but this is not what I'm about at all.

Incidentally, the books I had mentioned thus far were all official ISBN registered titles that you would find on sites such as Amazon.co.uk, Waterstones, etc. I was hoping to include titles from publishers such as Hal Leonard, Mel Bay, Carl Fischer etc. but I'm presuming these might not be welcome.

I do apologise if I haven't followed the 'letter of the law' procedure on Wikipedia, but the contributions were meant with the best of intentions.

KIeron Harran (KieronH1964) —Preceding unsigned comment added by KieronH1964 (talkcontribs) 15:35, 24 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Even if the books are useful to English speakers they might not be useful to, say Turkish or French speakers. And even if they are, other books might be more useful to readears of French og Turkish. References, litterature and external links needs evaluation by those who know the language of the wiki, and should preferably be added by those who write the actual article text. --Jorunn (talk) 01:22, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What on earth is the objection to Carl Sabanskis site- apart from pitiful use of HTML! It is by far the most authorative site available on the subject and is an essential link. If the problem lies with someones bot please get that sorted- but remove this destructive blacklisting it does no credit the reputation of Wikipedia. I will cross post this other sites that have referred me here. En:User:ClemRutter. 90.0.239.102 14:41, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

Kannst du bitte diese 'blacklist' umkehren, danke.

ClemRutter 14:57, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am just a regular user. I can neither remove nor add anything from the Meta spam blacklist. Like I said in Talk:Sundial you can try to have the link added to the local whitelist here on en.wikipedia. The link was blacklisted because it was spammed to other Wikipedias. The only way to stop cross-wiki spam is to add it to the Meta blacklist. --Jorunn 20:04, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

removing link[edit]

Dear Jorunn,

i note that you have blacklisted my website www.photovolcanica.com. I would very much appreciate it if you could remove the blacklisting, since the site is widely recognized as making a valuable well-researched contribution to the community. The pages linked to were specific to individual volcanoes with detailed scientific referencing therein, not general vague entries. The smithsonian institute has commented on the high quality of the site. Each page tends to be the result of much reading in the scientific literature as you can see from the references therein (please look again at the stromboli article you based your blacklisting on). The pages are more detailed in terms of an overall summary than most other pages in the volcano area and are frequently visited by members of the volcano scientific community. Linking them makes them available to a wider community. I guess you have an issue with the linking policy but surely it is important that wikipedia users get access to the most detailed information. I would really appreciate it if you could remove the blacklisting and contact me by email via the email address on the website (will not post here due to spam risk)

Richard —Preceding unsigned comment added by 145.64.134.234 (talk) 11:41, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed the link after it was blacklisted on Meta. The reason for blacklisting it you can find here: meta:User:COIBot/LinkReports/photovolcanica.com. Blacklisted links are preventing edits to the articles where they are from being saved, so they need to be removed. You can voice your concerns about the blacklisting of the link on m:Talk:Spam blacklist. I can neither add nor remove URLs from the blacklist, only admins on Meta can. --Jorunn (talk) 12:59, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your reply. The blacklisting has now been removed by one of the meta admins following a brief discussion of the issue including explanation of spam definition on wikipedia and agreement on my part not to place links to own site. Have a nice weekend... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 145.64.134.234 (talk) 15:01, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Official Maps for the city of Stavanger, Norway[edit]

Hi Jorunn and thanks for all your hard work for Wikipedia,

I would ask you sincerely to please allow the official map link to remain present on the external link section on the Stavanger page.

The map link has been present on Wikipedia since 2005 and I know through feedback and statistics that Wikipedia readers are appreciative of the information provided.

I work alone in providing the city of Stavanger with the necessary map material for travellers to the region. Schools and universities around the world also utilize the material for projects and assignments.

All the map work is done voluntary and any earnings go directly to server uphold and maintenance.

By blacklisting you are also affecting my voluntary work for other Wikipedia pages that I contribute to: peg solitaire; klotski and Stavanger Airport, Sola

Please bear with me on this one as it is a very important source of material.

It just remains for me to thank you once again for your input.

Best wishes, Kevin Paul Scarrott Stavanger Norway --Kevinpaulscarrott (talk) 17:48, 12 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You are not supposed to insert links to your own websites. Please read WP:Spam and WP:COI.
I can not blacklist links, only administrators on Meta can blacklist links there, and only administrators on this wiki can add links to the local blacklist for en.wikipedia. Links gets blacklisted on Meta only after the link has been inserted to many different wikis. You kept inserting your links after they had been removed, and you ignored the warning you got where I told you that if you kept inserting your links it could result in the links being blacklisted, and that there was a COIBot rapport about the cross wiki insertion of the link stavanger-guide.no.
--Jorunn (talk) 00:40, 13 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi and thank you for taking the time to reply, very much appreciated. All valid points and have now read through the WP information links. Apologise for not catching the warning (don’t bite the newcomers) am now up-to-date and have a better understanding and perception. In keeping this reply as short as possible I will close by asking for a truce. Please allow the map link to remain in place and utilize the material as you see best. Thanking you in the meantime for your feedback and informative Wikipedia links. This has given me food for thought. Please see and Stavanger City Map

Hribi.net[edit]

Hi, the site offers information that is in accordance with Wikipedia:EL#What should be linked, articles 3 and 4. While I don't oppose removing it in the article Alpine ibex and similar, it should certainly not be removed in the articles of Slovene mountains, like Triglav or Grintovec. It offers numerous images and especially descriptions of the ways to ascend them. --Eleassar my talk 11:16, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Links to hribi.net has been inserted cross wiki by IPs (belonging to ISPs Telekom Slovenije and Slovenia Online), who don't add any information, only the link. The links I removed had all been inserted in that way, they were not used as reference, they were inserted as mere external links, and by IP's who didn't add any content, only the links. It seems likely that those inserting the links has COI issues.
See for instance the cross wiki contributions of 213.250.11.138 and 193.77.89.161, or the edits here on en.wp of 213.250.12.119. --Jorunn (talk) 16:21, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

comet link to dynadec[edit]

Hello Jorunn,

Can you explain why you are removing all the links to www.dynadec.com when the Comet optimization solver is mentioned? This website is the only one where you can download the updated versions of this software so it is important to let it there. Thank you,

Pierre. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pschaus (talkcontribs) 09:29, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The reason can be found at m:User:COIBot/XWiki/dynadec.com and WP:EL. Wikipedia isn't a web directory.--Jorunn (talk) 11:42, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, please help![edit]

Hi! You removed all of my relevant links to prophecyfilm.com which has this person's collected works in numerous languages that you can see if you visit the website and which has history in the works which is about 1500 pages long. Why do you remove it when I try to make useful additions, Check for yourself that it is relevant, I am going to make many additions from this huge work in theological and historical areas and want to see that my work is not deleted immediately after I am done. Please help me so my work will be according to your guidelines. Should I have added the for example the specific language link, that is, www.prophecyfilm/spanish. What must I change? Am I blacklisted now by you, I would appreciate help since I am new and dont understand fully the rules. Should I wait with additions until you have sorted this mess out and helped me? Peace!Saintbridget (talk) 21:26, 1 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Who are you?[edit]

Hello Jorunn, i've noticed that you have removed a few links from the Ko Lipe section. I do not understand why there was any violation or why you deemed it necessary to change the links. Links that were posted by myself or others that i have promoted are factual for the island that Wikipedia is trying to promote. If you would take the time to look at the sites promoted you would see that they are beneficial for the well being of the island (promoting local businesses and the local chao ley) You left an external link untouched that is strictly for commercial purposes! That link has posted numerous times and only for their own benefits! The links that i posted have links to businesses and local operators that are trying to keep that island nice and pristine as well as responsible tourism. You removed a link under the section "things to do' that promotes not only Lipe island but others around it as well. Isnt that the purpose of Wikipedia? I would be interested in seeing or hearing from you as to what your reasons are? Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by Efferts (talkcontribs) 04:39, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia isn't for promoting anything, that is why I removed the links. Wikipedia isn't a travel guide, it is an encyclopedia. --Jorunn (talk) 08:12, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

COIBot report algarvemais.com[edit]

Hi. You messaged me something about this, and since I'm still a Wiki noob I don't understand exactly what it means and why I received this message. Thanks for clarifying. --Xaman79 (talk) 21:28, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It means that a bot which is monitoring the external links insertion has made a report about the insertion of the link algarvemais.com. --Jorunn (talk) 22:18, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What part of WP:EL does the external link faultlogger.com fail on.

bug tracker[edit]

I keep adding it to 'Bug Tracking Systems' which is perfectly reasonable.

Did you actually look at the link, it is a prime example of a 'Bug Tracking System' and is non-commercial!

Please add it back. —Preceding unsigned comment added by JulianMummery (talkcontribs) 12:49, 29 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You are not supposed to add links to websites you own. It is considered conflict of interest and at some point it also becomes link spam. (whois for faultlogger.com) (whois for geckowebcam.com)
The link had already been removed from the article twice (at least). You have now added it four times to that article, plus you have added it to other articles too. It doesn't matter if it is non-commercial or not, please read the external links guidelines. We do not want external links to every prime example of bug tracking system, and we do absolutely not want site owners to add links to their websites to our articles. I will remove your links again. --Jorunn (talk) 14:32, 29 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Jorunn:::

Then you are an arrogant pompous judgmental git. The links whether owned or not are meant to better the community and mine does. So stick that in your pipe and smoke it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.218.13.177 (talk) 23:30, 1 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you delete my link to the song? What if people want to prelisten to the song? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.115.192.68 (talk) 03:09, 24 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Without any more specific information (a link to the article at least) I don't know what link you are refering to. I usually leave an edit summary when I make an edit. The reason is probably given in the edit summary which you can find in the history of the article.
More information about links in articles can be found in the external links guidelines. --Jorunn (talk) 13:03, 24 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi jorunn, i have been added to the black list because i put links to www.worldinterestrate.info. this is information i searched for in wikipedia and could not find. i cant add this information in another way cause it is changing all the time. sorry but i dont see what is the problem with me adding this. what i put is relevant to the article and it contain further information that is accurate and on topic.

i am quoting the page about external links - Wikipedia:External links

"Some acceptable links include those that contain further research that is accurate and on-topic, information that could not be added to the article for reasons such as copyright or amount of detail, or other meaningful, relevant content that is not suitable for inclusion in an article for reasons unrelated to its accuracy."

Neither you nor your link (http://www.worldinterestrates.info) is blacklisted as far as I know. But you are not supposed to add links to your own website. If you continue the link might get blacklisted. --Jorunn (talk) 21:47, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
