Hey, where did you get all that info about Augustus? I've never heard of that before...seems like it should give a source, at the very least. Adam Bishop 05:16, 21 Oct 2004 (UTC)
I'll get a source by the end of the week. It's something of a contested theory; we're pretty sure that Augustus had Wilson's disease (as did the other Julio-Claudians); it's still hotly debated as to the validity of the link; i.e. records don't survive well so we don't know if Wilson's disease was actually very common among Roman aristocracy because of aristorcratic inbreeding; it it wasn't common, Augustus could have been the father. In the event that it was very common among Roman elite (who intermarried all the time) he might not have, but we don't have many records of other Roman elite. I'll read the paper I found it in again and check on this.---Ricimer
I would add that the notion that this Wilson's disease "proves" Augustus is Drusus's father is probably wrong. I don't know anything about the disease--can it pass through a mother? Because Antonia, Germanicus and Claudius's mother, seems to be a far more likely carrier than Drusus. Her mother was Octavia, Augustus's sister, who could very easily have carried the disease from the same source as Augustus.
