What is the history of the "G" at the beginning of this word?? Using the same system, what is a more complete list of numbers using this system??

Pronunciation[edit]
Several Internet sites say that the pronunciation of this word can be either with a hard or a soft g, depending on how giga is pronounced. I disagree with this, though. I say that the g should be pronounced hard in this word simply to distinguish it from the indefinite word jillion. Any comments?? 66.245.87.146 00:30, 23 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Google Search[edit]
Google does more than 10,000 results for this word, and among the first few, a pretty large majority talk about this word as meaning 10^9 on the basis of mega/million. (Note that I also e-mailed this information to Rowlett himself, but I got a response saying he is away from the office and won't be able to respond until October 15.)
