Your OMA membership[edit]

Hello Spikey, and welcome to the Office of Members' Advocates. As the de-facto interim coordinator I've added a link to your talk page on the talk page of the association; if you want to add any more contact information that you feel comfortable with please do so. I've started writing a few other pages and if you want to contribute to any of those pages or do some more editing that would be great. Once we have a few more members we might try to have a membership meeting to discuss how we might act as a group or help each other with our new-found volunteer role. — Alex756 [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Alex756 talk] 04:15, 9 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Thanks. I've added my contact info and formatted the list a bit; I think it's easier to read this way. --Spikey 20:00, 9 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Strom quotes[edit]

I had hoped that we had come to some sort of consensus (or at least truce) at the white supremacist article. So I'm wondering why you feel that the quote (and one opposing it) is necessary for the article? I won't repeat it here, but there are deeper reasons behind its original inclusion in the article, referred to here: Wikipedia talk:Requests for comment. Thanks, BCorr ¤ Брайен 22:01, 26 Feb 2004 (UTC)

I don't mind the quote's presence with proper attribution and context. Taking this to the talk page ... - David Gerard 22:30, Feb 26, 2004 (UTC)

AMA Election[edit]

Spikey, I've taken the liberty of adding links at Wikipedia:Announcements and Wikipedia:Goings-on that the Wikipedia:Association of Members' Advocates is searching for a Coordinator and I have started a new page dealing with the election. See: Wikipedia:AMA Coordinator Election. You editing, comments and participation as an AMA member would be appreciated. — Alex756 [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Alex756 talk] 20:34, 21 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Peer Review Please[edit]

Hi, I don't know if you saw my post the other week at Manual of Style : Talk page; could I ask if you could please review the article that John & Wik keep reverting over at Papua (Indonesian province) : Page history -- My version speaks for itself; different maps, more content, and honest facts not twisted racist non-sense. THeir version paints Papuans as dumb blackmen lead around by a Reverend with a sing-song (please compare that paragraph to mine). Their version also removes the vital links to the US State Dept. document & the letter from JFK, without which US readers may have difficultly understanding why their government did what it did at that time.

Also they keep reverting over West Papuan Genocide - a perfectly good article that they apparently hate because the Yale University uses the term West Papua which they have expunged from their version at [[Human rights violations in western New Guinea]]. I'm hoping some peer review may stop Wik and friend.

They accuse me of POV, which I feel their article is loaded with where-as my article avoids any POV by simply listing known facts and allowing readers to form their own thoughts. Even Tannin explained that to them but it goes in one ear & out the other apparantly. Also English language users can really only search the Internet for the country title "West Papua", as Papua would only return PNG & New Guinea pages. The current Indonesian name of the region is actually Propinsi Papua. The name issue is discussed on the talk page for a waste of time, and the meaning of Papua is even in dictionaries, sometimes even West Papua is. I just wanted to update my West Papua article to the new Wikipdia standard, not spend my life fighting racist trolls.Daeron 15:12, 8 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

My Southern California freeways project[edit]

I'm planning on starting a PhD at UCLA, USC, or UC Irvine next fall in city planning, with a focus on transportation. I'm particularly fascinated with the freeway system in Southern California (not necessarily in love with it, just interested) and have found that the existing Interstate and California State Highway pages don't really do justice to the system. Freeway by freeway, I'm trying to build a network of pages with a fairly standardized form.

Check out some of my work here: Southern California freeways. Do you like my format and style? Any suggestions? I'd like to add pictures/maps at some point.

Er...where? The link's broken. --Spikey 16:41, Oct 19, 2004 (UTC)
Well, I'll be damned. I didn't realize that you can't direct-link category pages. This may be problematic. Try Santa Monica Freeway or Antelope Valley Freeway instead (as examples, I've done something like 20 now). --Slightlyslack 07:41, 26 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Ah, I think you meant Category:Southern California freeways. They're good! Thanks for doing all this work. What I'd really like to work on is a standard freeway diagram for all major roadway articles with helpful links to intersecting roads and other locations, so that one can take a "virtual tour" of the country (or any part of it). --Spikey 03:51, Oct 27, 2004 (UTC)

Proposals for AMA Membership Meeting[edit]

As AMA Coordinator I am requesting that suggestions be placed on Wikipedia:AMA Membership Meeting plans for our first membership meeting, to be held in the near future, (hopefully before any election occurs.) Since we have never had any kind of "official" meeting we need to discuss how this will occur (i.e. Wiki pages or IRC channel), how it will be structured (i.e. meeting agenda) and if there will be any "chair" to supervise the meeting and meeting "secretary" to write up minutes or keep some kind of official record of what transpires. Thanks in advance for your input and your continued work as an advocate. Also, I don't think your name is on the main list of members, please update it when you get a chance. Thanks. — © Alex756 20:53, 5 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Actually, I have left the AMA, only because I haven't had enough time to spend on the Wikipedia these days. I'd love to return when I'm more active, but for now I'm going to hang back. Sorry if I never made that clear. Thanks for the note though. Cheers! --Spikey 23:30, Jan 5, 2005 (UTC)

Quarto by email[edit]

Hi Spikey, a new mailing list has been set up to distribute news about the Wikimedia foundation, specifically at the moment to publicise Quarto. I saw your name on the quarto talk page requesting a copy by email, and I think this mailing list is how we're going to do it for the moment. It'll be a html email, which I've added to the Quarto talk page m:Talk:WQ. Mailing list is called Foundation-news-l (We also need translators!) Cheers w:User:Cormaggio

Bard kid?[edit]

I am, indeed. Well spotted, Mr. Class-of-2004! (The Facebook just makes it too easy, doesn't it?) Good to know there are more Bardians around here than just me. Hey, wait, I know you: you're the orange stand guy! Classic! --Spikey 06:35, May 28, 2005 (UTC)
Do you mean Wikipedia:Facebook, or a Bard facebook? I still don't know who you are... (oh, and by the way, reply on my talk page, so I know when you have!) Adam Conover 21:16, May 29, 2005 (UTC)
