Virtual memory[edit]

Hi, this is an encyclopaedia intended for use by all and sundry, not just computer scientists, which is why that introductory paragraph was worded in that rather vague and un-technical way.

Your second paragraph is mostly duplicative of material in the (now) third and fourth paragraphs (again, explained in a way intended for non-technical audiences). You also say "Today, however, this is not the primary reason virtual memory is used", without saying why it is used. (I tried to work it out, but couldn't. AFAIK the reasons to use virtual memory remain as they always were - to avoid burdening the programmer with the details of multi-level storage management.)

Finally, you reference Computer Architecture (which I don't currently own), so I wanted to check to make sure than none of your added text was copied from that work, which would of course violate Wikiepedia's strict copyright policy. If any of that text from the book? Thanks. Noel (talk) 19:19, 6 Dec 2004 (UTC)

And now that I look at it in more detail, that new first paragraph of yours is wrong anyway. See Talk:Virtual memory for more. Noel (talk) 19:26, 6 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Hi, I hope we didn't run you off. Did my comments on Talk:Virtual memory make sense to you? I ordered the Hennesey book, but it's not here yet - I'll be interested to see what they say. Noel (talk) 20:26, 15 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Images[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Virtualmem.png. I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag. Could you add one to let us know its copyright status? (You can use {{gfdl}} if you release it under the GFDL, or {{fairuse}} if you claim fair use, etc.) If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know where you got the images (on my talk page) and I'll tag them for you. Thanks so much, BrokenSegue 02:51, 24 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Image Tagging for Image:Pipelining.gif[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Pipelining.gif. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Vitruvius[edit]

Thank you for your edit to the Vitruvius page. Follow this link http://penelope.uchicago.edu/Thayer/E/Roman/Texts/Vitruvius/1*.html press ctrl+f and copy/paste this text M. Aurelius.

If you still have an issue please take it up with the author of De architectura. If you have any spare time maybe you can browse through some older texts and find out who the author was referring to as Marcus Aurelius, Publius Minidius, and Gnaeus Cornelius. If you read the discussion page you will see that this has been a mystery to more people than just you. If you think it is a typo in the U of Chicago text then try this one http://www.gutenberg.org/files/20239/20239-8.txt. Granite07 (talk) 06:07, 19 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
