A much thinner and bigger (size of a dinner plate) version of a crumpet. Usually made from a mixture of whole wheat and white flour. It is though that the word comes from the Welsh "bara pyglyd" meaning "pitchy bread" because of it color. In Australia and New Zealand, the term pikelet is used as a term for a small drop scone also cooked on a griddle.
