Okay, perhaps not vanity, but the creator explicitly stated (in Talk:Nu_metal)"You might even want to call this liquid metal. Sounds cool, I'll start a page just for the hell of it." Whatever you want to call it (original research, perhaps), he's defining a term that he's just invented, and that's definitely something Wikipedia is not. -leigh 13:27, Nov 29, 2004 (UTC)

• Delete: Critical appellations are fast and free. Only if it were substantial and large would I see any need whatever to try to have an article for it. Some genres seem to have more subgenres than they have bands. Geogre 03:15, 26 Nov 2004 (UTC)
• Keep I rarely vote to keep entries nominated for deletion, but liquid metal is a legitimate subgenre of heavy metal (of which I'm not much of a fan), which spins off so many genres because a) it's popular, which by definition means subgenres will emerge and b) its blues-derived structure and strict instrumentation don't allow much variation before it starts to sound like something other than "classic" heavy metal. Besides, the entry as it is now is short and succinct (disclosure - I cleaned it up). --User:83.115.16.43

  • Exactly: XM was just being clever in naming the channel. The syndicated show "Music from the Hearts of Space" keeps talking about "space music," but that hasn't become the dominant term (and there they're trying), and it's been on the air for 15 years or more. The question is whether anyone using Wikipedia will have hit the term and not understand it elsewhere. Geogre 13:54, 26 Nov 2004 (UTC)
  • XM has a station named "liquid metal" because "liquid metal" is a phrase that sounds cool. It means about as much as "ice jazz," which I just made up off the top of my head and which has 423 Google hits. Yes, "liquid metal" + music turns up a lot of Google hits. "Liquid metal" is also apparently the name of an obscure electronica band which recorded an album titled Funky Terminator. Indigo Rose Software Corp. put out a CD of royalty-free music called "Liquid Metal," but that was volume 15 of a series called Liquid Cabaret that also included "Epic Adventure," "Notorious 80's," and "Liquid Revolution." For these and other reasons, there are some pages on the internet that contain the phrase "liquid metal" and the word "music". Does metal have a lot of generally-recognized subgenres? Yes. I could name a dozen off the top of my head. But "liquid metal" is not one of them. -leigh 13:27, Nov 29, 2004 (UTC)
• If I typed "Liquid metal" into the search bar, I would expect an article on liquid metals, not rock music. How about moving it to Liquid Metal (music)? Ben Standeven
