- If you ever think a page or image should be deleted, please list it at the votes for deletion page. There is also a votes for undeletion page if you want to retrieve something that you think should not have been deleted.

An appeal for ceasefire[edit]
It's none of my business really.. But can you please try and tone it down in Talk:India? I have nothing to say if or if not India can be called Hindustan, but I believe talk pages are meant for discussing one's opinions on articles and not mud-slinging on one's supposed knowledge or supposed qualifications and counter-attacks on these insinuations. In wikipedia, even one's own talk page needs to be maintained with a sense of decorum - simply because nobody owns the page. Kindly remember that nothing on wikipedia ever gets deleted unilaterally, and I am sure this is not something that either of you would be proud of, really. If you were willing to listen to me (you have no reason to, except may be if you would like to listen to some neutral opinion), can you just give this issue a breather or at least take it offline and finish your business privately ? Mumbai Suburbs[edit]
Hello! Many of us have been doing a good job, adding a lot to Mumbai suburbs (like Bandra, Santacruz, Andheri, Mulund etal.). It's high time we have a standard template for this purpose.
I suggest - A brief intro, Geography(PIN Code, Neighbouring/Nearest Railway Stations, Neighbouring Suburbs, Main Roads), History, Educational Institutions, Places to Visit.

Poles in India[edit]
As to the History of Poland and the camp in India: no offence, but I'm thinking of removing this information. The camp you mention was just one of countless DP camps for the Polish reffugees from the Soviet Union after 1941. Even in India there were lots of such camps and I really see no point in mentioning this very camp.
Could you perhaps elaborate it a bit? I mean adding some more info on the DPs would be really good.
As a sidenote, my school was named after maharaja Jam Saheb Digvijaysinhji, one of the founders of such camps. He saved several thousand of Polish children from starvation in many smaller camps and the first one (Balachadi near Jamnagar, Gujarat). Halibutt 00:27, 7 May 2004 (UTC)
- Well, the main argument behind naming the school that way (we all voted) was that the only reward Jam Saheb wanted for his generosity was that a street be named after him in Free Poland. Now that Poland is finally liberated his children asked the Warsaw authorities to name one of the streets after him, but they refused stating that his name is too long and too difficult (I must say they were right...). So we decided that if they do not want to do it, then someone has.
- Those Polish-Indian relations are not well-known in Poland, but one of the most famous Polish actresses ever, Hanka Ordonówna, left the Soviet Union with those children and took care of them in India. After the war she wrote a book about it (Tułacze dzieci - Exiled Children, Beiruth, 1948) and it is fairly popular. Also, if you're interested, there's a full bibliography of the topic here. Actually, there was a particular caste sentence that was out of context in the religion sub heading, so I made a separate heading, but having made a separate heading, I had to include some more info on society. Indian society does not find mention anywhere and I think it forms an important part of understanding what India is. In fact this section should be much more professionally written than the amateur stuff that I have added. I think it would be a much better proposition to reduce the Culture subheading which is too long, detailed and has its own subheadings KRS 02:59, 8 May 2004 (UTC)

- Hi, I think it would be a better idea *not* to cut down on anything right now. Rather, if a sub-topic goes beyond a limit that justifies its inclusion in the main article, we may think about starting a separate page for it. That way, the precis of the subject can be given in the main article and a link given to the new article. India needs some heavy-duty content addition, and cutting down on information will only prove detrimental in the long run. Like to know your viewpoints. Chancemill 18:03, May 8, 2004 (UTC)
Poland[edit]
A paragraph about the diplomatic representation maintained by the Polish goverment in exile would certainly be relevant. A reference to one consulate and one refugee camp is not appropriate in the context of the article.

- You know, Poland in the interbellum had a very extensive net of consulates and embassies. It was partially due to a huge Polish diaspora in almost every part of the world and partially due to imperialist dreams of parts of Polish politicians (we need colonies, we need to protect our fellow citizen and so on). Anyway, after the WWII broke out, only the diplomatic posts in Russia and Germany were closed, the rest remained opened. Later on many more were opened (in Russia after the Sikorski-Mayskiy agreement) and they remained operational until the very end of the war. I don't think this needs any a separate article since that's how diplomacy works and I guess that most countries of the world did the same.
- Obviously, after Stalin forced the Polish army to retreat to Iran (that's where those Poles in India came from), most of the consulates in Russia were closed (since their only purpose was to aid the Poles released from the Gulag; when the gates of the Gulags were closed again, all those posts lost any sense). However, the rest of Polish embasies remained opened.
- So, those posts were not opened by the Polish government in exile, most of them were set up by the Polish government in the twenties and thirties. Halibutt 02:01, 9 May 2004 (UTC)

Based on your comments at Talk:Main Page, I wasn't sure whether you are aware that some of the contents of the main page can be edited by non-admins, such as yourself. See Wikipedia:Editing the main page for general information, and there are more detailed instructions associated with some of the different templates.
If you do contribute content in this area, may I make a suggestion? I would encourage you to focus your efforts on adding material on subjects you believe are neglected, rather than removing things you find unimportant (this may offend people who do find them important). Not everyone will necessarily agree that "international relevance" is required to put something on the main page. But if you contribute new material, it can help balance out North American- or Euro-centric tendencies and make the content more representative of an encyclopedia whose coverage is international in scope. This will also increase the turnover of items on the main page, and then hopefully we can worry less about whether the Stanley Cup belongs, because it will soon be gone anyway. --Michael Snow 20:49, 9 Jun 2004 (UTC)

- As a Canadian, I am very insulted by this (regardless of the other potential merits of your argument). I wouldn't pair Pakistan and India, so don't pair USA and Canada. If you were in Canada, you would realize how important the Stanley Cup finals were to our country, and how much it is regarded as being a competition between two countries. Like many others have said, if you feel unrepresented in certain sections, then represent yourself; don't ask others to stop representing themselves. - RealGrouchy 13:26, 12 Jun 2004 (UTC)
