Just asked the folks at (www.calcars.com)to help me understand why the three Pruises we own cannot be "converted" to the new system they have in the works of "Gas-optional hybrids" (GO-HEVS) This kit will convert your Prius (and maybe ohter hybrids later) to the option to "plug in" at night to just a regular outlet, and thereby you can drive the first 20-30 miles or so "free"! Since I live close to work, this would be ideal for me. When you do the math, I guess it makes your Hybrid get 100 or more per gallon! Impressive. (they are still not sure how Toyota may deal with warranty issues tho, but Toyota may fall right in line with it, as it would make them look like the good guys who stand behind Green power as they say they do!)

It seems the kits will only be for 2004-2006 models tho.  Gads. Wouldnt cha know it? We have 2001 and 2002 models.  I finally save up and find our third Pruis and we buy it, an d now someone's telling me, they may be "obsolete" soon.. sheeesh. 

But I suppose if other companies come out with converters too, then maybe there may be hope for mine as well IF they can even be converted? I have asked the folks at Calcars.com to let me know if its technically IMPOSSIBLE to convert my cars, or if they just want to start with the 2004's for some reason??

Anyone have any ideas on this??
