This month's winner is RNA interference![edit]

Nice figure[edit]

Just saw your central dogma figure and it looks great but I am wondering if it is accurate to say RNA to RNA to virus only. There are RNA dependent RNA poymerases involved in siRNA amplification mechanisms for one. David D. (Talk) 10:12, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nice figure, but an error[edit]

More importantly the red and blue colors are switched on the color key to the central dogma figure. As you have drawn the arrows, blue is the general case and red is the special case. Anon. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 75.132.168.230 (talk) 02:16, 22 December 2006 (UTC).[reply]

Are plant known as lower life forms? This seems to be from an animal centric POV. There are higher and lower plants, as there are higher and lower animals. I don't think the hierarchy is meant to comparre between animal and plants. David D. (Talk) 22:16, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know if you know this already, but the -moz-border tag is a mozilla firefox specific style, ie. internet explorer does not display the round corners. Nuclear pore[edit]

Dear Mike, I am a user of the Occitan wikipedia [1] ; and I would like to know if it could be possible to use your wonderfull drawing of the nuclear pore for the Occitan article [2] (without a drawing like this one, there would no point in enhancing the article because it would not be very easy to understand) ; I've seen that there is a licence restiction, this is why I wanted to ask you, in case there would be a chance the Occitan wikipedia can use it. Sincerely, Lembeye [3]

Many thanks. Thanks to your drawing, if you go to the Occitan page, you'll see that thanks to you, the article has been enhanced, though, I hope it will be improved soon. We still have a little problem to view it in its page, although the file works perfectly. We'll check that with our manager. Thanks again and congratulation for this drawing and for the others you made (both artistically and scientificly). We all know that biology is nothing without proper illustration. Notability of Erica Kubanek[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Erica Kubanek, by WWGB (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Erica Kubanek seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Erica Kubanek, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 04:28, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image tagging for Image:EK1.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:EK1.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Non-free use disputed for Image:EK1.jpg[edit]

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:EK1.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted after seven days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:25, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:EK1.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:EK1.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 16:17, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Image:HatchSlackpathway.png[edit]

A tag has been placed on Image:HatchSlackpathway.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I8 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is available as a bit-for-bit identical copy on the Wikimedia Commons under the same name, or all references to the image on Wikipedia have been updated to point to the title used at Commons.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:HatchSlackpathway.png|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Sdrtirs (talk) 17:22, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

your brassica image is incorrect[edit]

Dear Adenosine, the brassica image is showing the plants as if they were haploids. This is incorrect. Normal plants are diploids and carry 2n chromosomes. regards Herman van Eck, Geneticist at Wageningen University —Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.224.252.10 (talk) 11:29, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I understand what you mean but I don't think it is too much of an issue here. The diagram was not intended just to convey inter-relatedness in the brassica group. Maybe it is a diagram of the DNA in pollen? Or maybe it is the DNA of a haploid genome so that genetic redundancy isn't too confusing (that's what I had in mind). I'd be happy to redesign it if you could suggest a elegant way to design a more accurate model Adenosinetalk 19:20, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Carbon dioxide is not a substrate for PEPC as it is shown in this diagram. CO2 is first converted to a bicarbonate ion which PEPC adds to PEP. Could you update the diagram to show this please? Maybe add in carbonic anhydrase too as this converts the carbonic acid > HCO3-. Good work otherwise though! If you're feeling like it, it would be better if the cells were joined rather than as separate entities. The substrates are all transported between cells through plasmodesmata, rather than diffusing through the membrane. Let me know if this doesn't make sense. Suggestion of Correction to the image on DNA Replication Modes[edit]

About File:DNAreplicationModes.png. I suppose there might be something wrong with the depiction of dispersive mode. It is, at present, shown that in dispersive mode of replication each strand of a DNA molecule has been paired with that of the same property (e.g., a newly synthesized fragment paired with again a newly synthesized fragment, i.e., thin red with thin red, and red with red). However, M. Delbrück had indicated that each strand in itself has alternating patterns of original and new nucleotides.[1].

Therefore, I would suggest a correction of each duplex of dispersive mode accordingly, in which every strand has patterns of red and thin red following each other and paired reciprocally with the opposite pattern, i.e., thin red with red and vice versa.

Although it may not be of much importance, since it still gains the insight to understanding the Meselson-Stahl experiment, I'm afraid it is not the actual representation of dispersive model proposed by Delbrück.

Thank you for such a useful schema of all three hypotheses of DNA replication. William Savalto (talk) 21:09, 22 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
