Talk:US 2 freeway (Michigan)

I don't have a really strong opinion on this, but with the current content, this article is terribly misnamed as US 2 freeway (Michigan) -- it should be St. Ignace-Moran Expressway. That freeway USED to be designated as US 2, but is no longer, so unless someone is planning to expand this article very soon, I suggest that this should be moved back to its original name. older≠wiser 14:51, Feb 26, 2005 (UTC)

St. Ignace-Moran Expressway was a made-up name for a freeway that apparently never had a name. This was the best I could think of. --SPUI (talk) 14:55, 26 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Yeah, I was about to make an addendum to my original comment that Google doesn't show ANY hits for "St. Ignace-Moran Expressway" and I don't see any mention of it a Chris Bessert's Michigan Highways -- so I don't know if the name is even real. The use seems to be limited to past history of this page and a redirect. Have a look at the page before I moved it - everything says "I made up this name on the spot". By the way, Chris Bessert uses "US 2 freeway":

"1957 - The first portion of the US-2 freeway opens between Evergreen Shores and M-123 north of Saint Ignace, marking the first freeway segment ever built in the U.P. Also, on November 1, 1957, the Mackinac Bridge opens for traffic, with a new interchange at US-2 adjacent to Straits State Park on the west side of Saint Ignace."

This seems to be what it was referred to when it was built. I'd go with either expanding this page to include all of the former US 2 freeway, or simply merging it with I-75. --SPUI (talk) 15:06, 26 Feb 2005 (UTC)

If it becomes about the "former" US-2 freeway, the article should be renamed accordingly. But I would be OK with merging whatever tidbits of information there are regarding the history into the I-75 and US-2 articles. The old redirect should probably be deleted. That name, as I'm finding out, is really quite misleading as the freeway segment never went anywhere near the community of Moran. older≠wiser 15:46, Feb 26, 2005 (UTC)
