The Kappa Sigma claim[edit]

really should be removed, but I've tried to make it clear it is something they claim. -- Egil 09:39, 19 Apr 2005 (UTC)

The Papal Heraldry of John xxiii and Bosch's "Christ Crowned with Thorns"[edit]

Ottfried Neubecker's "Heraldry - Sources, Symbols and Meaning" includes a list of papal arms from Honorius iv to JP ii. For John xxiii he shows the shield divided per fess with an argent (silver) gamba (leg) on a red field in chief and in base bendy stripes green and argent - the whole surrounded by a Nesselblatt (nettle-leaf, jagged or zig-zag) border or (gold). This heraldry seems to be shown in Hieronymus Bosch's work "Christ Crowned with Thorns" at the Escorial Monasterio de San Lorenzo and it is implied that the Christ figure is this 'antipope' at the centre of the disputes of the predatory high nobility of Europe. 210.50.52.33 02:42, 29 December 2006 (UTC) Ian Ison[reply]

Changing quotes[edit]

I assume the anonymous editor who made this change just didn't read the text and "helpfully" corrected the claim attributed to Gibbon. I read the altered version and thought "that's strange, saying the Gibbon called this antipope John XXIII completely counters the argument made", and only because I was completely convinced of this did I go back two years into the edit history to find this small change.

Please, people, do not "helpfully" change quotes attributed to others unless you're really and truly sure the correction is correct. --Saforrest (talk) 05:55, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
