National Intelligence Division?[edit]

One question: When was it revealed that NID was "National Intelligence Division"? I can't remember it ever being called anything but NID in the series. KorbenDirewolf 21:08, 5 Nov 2004 (UTC)

This article should be revised seeing that the NID has Been reformed and the rogue element reorganized as the Trust

It says in the director's commentary of Reckoning that it doesn't stand for anything. Just made up by fans.

Incorrect Information[edit]

I don't know where "National Intelligence Division" has been pulled from, but it is incorrect and should be changed. It has never been revealed in the show what the initials "NID" stand for, though the writers have time and again admitted that they don't signify anything at all.

(Amusingly, the agency was originally to be named the "NRD" - "Not a Real Department" - but was changed to "NID" on account of the latter sounding better.)

I think the fact that the words behind the presumed acronym NID has never been revealed on the show should be added to this wiki, along with the comments from the writers - can you cite a source?

Merge[edit]

When this page was up for deletion so it could be renamed I noticed most of it talked about the rouge NID aka the Trust.. I don't see any reason why they should be two seperate pages. So I propose we merge the two here and have Trust (Stargate) Redirect here, to the section on it. EnsRedShirt 08:49, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

Disagree The NID is a givernment organization with rogue elements. The Trust is a private group with some members of the former NID. Clearly related, but not the same organization. Fan1967 13:05, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Disagree I must concur with the previous poster. The NID is a government agency, with the mandate of overseeing military operations and the responsible acquisition of alien technology for planetary defense. The Trust is a private group composed of some rogue NID agents and civilians with ties to some corporations, with the goal of acquiring alien technology at any cost for commercial gain. The two groups may have some common members, but their agenda and legitimacy are not the same. I support the two articles remaining separate. 67.168.132.123 19:03, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Comment If I could offer another commment, after the recent move of this page, I took it upon myself to go though all the articles with links to the old name (National Intelligence Division), and fix them. Most of the links were either articles about people who were not part of the Trust, or from episdoe summaries that occurred before the NID broke up. Linking to the Trust wouldn't make sense in most of the cases. Fan1967 00:09, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Disagree That would be like having Ancients redirect to humans. They are similar, but not inseperable 21:45, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
DisagreeI agree with the last comment, as they're 2 different things, worth having links to each page, and even mentioning each in the articles. Wiki ian 12:47, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

SGO[edit]

in the non-offical stargate game Star gate online (Byond games) the NID are players that are un-happy with the way that the SGC is being run so they are planing a take over of it. User:HHS.student Not Logged in
