I don't think that webpage should be part of the box. It should go in an external links section like in other pages. Also remember that the box will have to be heavily modified for non-orbital or even complex orbit satellites/probes. How do describe in a box an orbit that swings by Earth once then Venus three times before settling around Mercury? Rmhermen 18:03, Mar 24, 2004 (UTC)

I went back and forth on the webpage thingie, ultimately I included it in there b/c I saw that Wikipedia:WikiProject_Telescopes did I wanted a similar feel between this project and that one.

As for the orbits, I would go with what the ultimate destination is (in your example mercury). How it gets there is important and should be in the article itself. The only program that does not fit this mold though is the voyager program, in which you case you would prolly just put "n/a" in that slot. Ryjaz 19:11, Mar 24, 2004 (UTC)

orbits on infobox

My two cents on the "orbits" section of the infobox would be to not assume an orbit is normal for a mission--none of the Moon missions really "orbited" anything, they had a destination. Maybe have two versions of the infobox, one for things that do orbit (examples, HST orbits the Earth, SOHO is heliocentric), and one for those that have a destination (Voyagers to outer planets, Galileo to Jupiter, Cassini to Saturn). Orbitting missions could have the same info as the current box. Missions with destinations could list destination, fly-bys, maybe dates of flight corrections, eventual post-mission destination (like where the Voyagers are headed now), mission discoveries (past missions) or goals (future)...

Just brainstorming. Meanwhile, feel free to hop on over to Wikipedia:WikiProject Telescopes, as it's kinda stalled out lately.

Point taken. The more I think about it, the more it makes sense that there are those missions whose orbital elements are not known. How does two templates sound, one for earth orbitting missions (include the Earth Observing System satellites and scientific, non-telescopes like COBE) and one for explorer type missions like the ones you talk about.

I like adding fly-bys and replacing "Satellite of" with "Destination", but the rest I think should go into article itself. I don't want the infobox to be too large, just quick facts. - Ryjaz 17:06, Mar 25, 2004 (UTC)

Non-orbital missions

Hello, I am wondering if there is any current effort to create an infobox for extra-planetary missions such as Mars Global Surveyor and Mars Science Laboratory? I working on Stardust (spacecraft) and I noticed that The German language Wikipedia article includes a mission infobox. This looks like a good thing to have for the English language version of the article. I would like to create one for Stardust (spacecraft), but the infobox for earth-orbital satellites does not quite seem appropriate. I would like the infobox to be as reusable as possible (although maybe that is more difficult for this type of mission?). Would anyone like to help work on this? Wikipedia:WikiProject Space exploration

I've started the Space exploration WikiProject, but there's nothing there right now. My hope is that we will be able impliment the article assessment that's going on at the 1.0 editoral team, as they are trying to Work via Wikiprojects. Over 100 other wikiprojects are already following suit; the articles within the scope of this project could greatly benefit from being apart of this.. thoughts? article assessments

as some of you will have noticed, i've been tagging many article, under the broad topic of Space exploration, with the tag {{WP Space exploration}}. this banner has a built in assessment feature.. you can rate the articles quality (out of Stub/Start/B/GA/A/FA), and the importance (Low/Mid/High/Top). The quality has a pretty clear grading scheme, but the importance is much more subjective.

anyway, to do this, for example, add {{WP Space exploration|class=B|importance=Mid}} to the Talk page. the banner also has a link to a pretty bot generated list (update once a day, around 10am UTC) of all articles with the Space exploration tag. so feel free to help out, and tag and assess some articles. :) also, when rating an article, you may feel a desire to justify your rating; if so, a comment on the Talk page with the heading "Assessment" seems appropriate. Project directory

Hello. The WikiProject Council has recently updated the Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. This new directory includes a variety of categories and subcategories which will, with luck, potentially draw new members to the projects who are interested in those specific subjects. Please review the directory and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. Ariane, ESA, CSG

Hello! I live in Kourou and would like to contribute photos of Ariane launches if needed, or perhaps photos of the CSG (Centre spatial guyanais - the space centre not far from town). I know next to nothing about rockets or space exploration, so I wouldn't really be able to add any text to articles, but I'd be more than glad to contribute photos. I think this is the project for all things Ariane & co., but if I am mistaken, I apologise. There are so many projects relating to space that I'm unsure who to turn to for help. Wikipedia Day Awards

Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Is this project still active?

Canadian Nanosatellites

Are satellites in the scope of this WikiProject? Because I have recently started an article on the Canadian Advanced Nanospace eXperiment program, but, since this is a rather obscure topic and one that is unimportant to most people, nobody other than myself has edited it. ESA

I've set up a new task force page and a portal on the subject of ESA as part of the wikiproject Europe. I'm interested in knowing if I can somehow integrate the task force into this project as well. Also I am in need of a lot of help, so anyone interested in the subject or even if you just know how to set up the categories for a wikiproject or TF is more than welcomed. Rename or merge?

Seeing as this project is currently inactive, I think it would be a good idea to either rename it to WikiProject Unmanned spaceflight, or merge it into WP:WikiProject Spaceflight. Renaming the project would allow expansion of its scope to include all unmanned spacecraft, which may help to put some life back into the project. Merging it would allow the Spaceflight project to take over its duties, which it is pretty much doing anyway. --GW… 10:56, 15 March 2009 (UTC)
