Shemic

What is a "shemic language?

I guess it meant "Semitic", as there is a family of Semitic languages and the word "semitic" derives from "shem". But the whole idea of listing languages there was bad; there's no reason for any other languages to have the same ambiguity in "free". German doesn't -- though interestingly "free beer" is "Freibier", as an adjective free as in beer is "umsonst" or "gratis", not "frei".

Shem in hebrew, Sem in greek. thus, shemite=semite, and shemitic=semitic

Free as in speech

I reverted the Wikilink to Free as in speech because it's just a redirect back to this page, as is Free as in freedom. Chris 01:24, 3 Oct 2004 (UTC)

what a letdown
