Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy

Really crappy nonsense mess about a band that covered a Dead Kennedys song (i think that's what it says). looks almost like a speedy, but it's not quite patent nonsense. blankfaze | ?? | ?? 05:15, 28 Jun 2004 (UTC)

  • They are a real band; if someone wants to write a real article for them then the present information can be kept as a note at the end. As it is, however, it shouldn't stand.-R. fiend 05:18, 28 Jun 2004 (UTC)
  • The name sounds familiar. Aren't they the band that Michael Franti used to be a part of, or at least partnered with, on "Television: The Drug of A Nation" (not sure of exact title). If so, then the article should be developed and kept. Chuq 05:56, 28 Jun 2004 (UTC)
    • I've just done a complete rewrite of the article to include the bands actual history, associations, musical style, genre, members and politics, as well as an image of the (only) album cover. It probably needs more work, but at least it is readable, encyclopaedic and wikified right now. Tell me what you think. And yes, it is the band Michael Franti was in before Spearhead. SkArcher 06:34, 28 Jun 2004 (UTC)
      • Sigh. That should be Spearhead (Band), not the right wing magazine. In fact I might bring up that the main entry on Spearhead should be a disambig, for both of these entries and for the obvious archaeological entry]] SkArcher 06:37, 28 Jun 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep now that a decent article has been created. RickK 06:32, Jun 28, 2004 (UTC)
  • Definitely keep now. Probably find a few more things to link to it too. -R. fiend 06:48, 28 Jun 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep. Expand. Important band. & BTW, even their DK cover was pretty significant, one of the first times a punk political song was reworked as a hip-hop political song. -- Jmabel 06:50, Jun 28, 2004 (UTC)
    • Yes, they were certainly significant in terms of forging a middle ground between Rap & Hip-Hop on the one hand and the "White Boys with Guitars" on the other. We should probably start using the Talk page if the consensus is to Keep. Would be interesting to create a central page on the cross-genre music of the early 90s, because as mentioned in the article it did give rise much later to more popular bands. Sigh. I now feel old, I remember moshing to DHOH in '92 SkArcher 07:00, 28 Jun 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep, definitely, I'm not even going to look at what this page was like originally, but it's fine work now. —Stormie 06:58, Jun 28, 2004 (UTC)
    • Can I remove the VfD notice at this point? Do we have consensus to keep the page? SkArcher 08:34, 28 Jun 2004 (UTC)
  • Wow. I've never seen anything like this. This thing went from a complete and total two-sentence mess to an exceptional article. Kudos. I withdraw my initial complaint and vote to keep. blankfaze | ?? | ?? 12:07, 28 Jun 2004 (UTC)
  • I've removed the VfD notice. If anyone has a serious problem with this, they can re-enter it, but I would like to think this is acceptable to everyone now. SkArcher 16:06, 28 Jun 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep rewrite. In ten short hours it went from a drug-induced substub to a magnificent short article. - Lucky 6.9 17:30, 28 Jun 2004 (UTC)
  • Someone deleted the Vfd notice but left in the category. If we keep the article, don't forget to remove it. Oh, and I vote to keep as rewritten. --ssd 00:20, 29 Jun 2004 (UTC)
    • That was me, I did that deliberately because a lot of people use the 'What links here' function on this page rather than scrolling through the lot. SkArcher 00:53, 29 Jun 2004 (UTC)
  • Definitely keep. Good article, they are one of my favorite bands, and Franti has gone on to do innovative work based on his beginnings in the Disposable Heroes. Plus the article has been imporved a great deal. BCorr|Брайен 15:23, 1 Jul 2004 (UTC)
