Talk:List of members of the Order of Merit
Quite a few of these names were or later became Knights or Dames, yet in only one case, John Gielgud, is the title 'Sir' shown. Where they became peers, that is shown, but not where they were knighted. Is there a particular reason for this? I'm thinking of adding the relevant titles. JackofOz 06:07, 15 Jun 2004 (UTC)
I'd say use them, but only for people who were knights or dames at the time they were given the Order of Merit. john k 06:22, 15 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Royals no national flag - why?[edit]
Royals such as the Prince of Wales and The Duke of Edinburgh have no national flag in the "Country" column - can we not be sure of their allegiance to a particular flag? Davidbrookesland (talk) 19:26, 6 March 2018 (UTC)
- Can't speak to the Duke of Edinburgh, but afaik the former Prince of Wales, now King Charles III, is not actually a citizen of the UK, like all sovereigns. Perhaps the lack of flag was meant to represent this? 169.237.125.5 (talk) 20:35, 14 September 2022 (UTC)

Margaret Thatcher[edit]
Thatcher appears with her occupation listed solely as Stateswoman. Other former prime ministers or heads of state appear as Politician (eg Attlee and Churchill). Where an individual is described as a Statesman it is elsewhere combined with another career (admiral, civil servant, philosopher), with the sole exceptions of Nelson Mandela and Margaret Thatcher. I propose conforming Thatcher and Mandela to other PMs/Heads of State - as Politician - unless anyone can suggest why not. Thomas Peardew (talk) 22:56, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
