Mellophone image[edit]

What is the copyright status of the Mellophone image? --Eloquence 08:49 29 May 2003 (UTC)

The image was taken from http://www.unitedmusical.com/catalog/detail.asp?Item_Number=1120. The only copyright on that page was the brand name (King (R)), and that was noted on the image page. Do you think that the image is copywritten? --bdesham 10:51 29 May 2003 (UTC)
Unfortunately, everything is copyrighted by default (see copyright) unless it is explicitly licensed or put in the public domain. Copyright notices are not necessary. It's stupid, but that's the way it is. If you want to use the image, I suggest you send a Wikipedia:Boilerplate request for permission to info at unitedmusical dot com. --Eloquence 10:56 29 May 2003 (UTC)
Very well. Will it be sufficient to remove the reference to the image (instead of the image itself) until I obtain permission? --bdesham 20:06 29 May 2003 (UTC)
Sure. We're not paranoid. --Eloquence 20:35 29 May 2003 (UTC)

Re-linking 212[edit]

Thanks for re-linking me on Wikipedia:WikiMoney. But it seems to break regularly on that page, but to compensate for that I'm not paid what I'm owed ;) ²¹² 14:59 18 Jun 2003 (UTC)

That's a pretty good idea (though I would say I've had to fix it more often on VfD than on Wikipedia:WikiMoney). But it's not going to stop me from fixing it every time I see it broken, I'm like that. ;) I do think it's a good idea though, for when one gets by me somewhere. What happens if someone make a real User:212, though? -- John Owens 00:00 19 Jun 2003 (UTC)

I've kind of tried to explain that on User talk:212. --bdesham 01:01 19 Jun 2003 (UTC)
Thanks again, although I think the interesting question is why does it break? ²¹² 09:30 19 Jun 2003 (UTC)

I would like to express my gratitude towards your kind editing at Buddhism. Be well. Usedbook 01:31 21 Jun 2003 (UTC)

Sysophood[edit]

Congratulations, you have just been made a sysop! You have volunteered for boring housekeeping activities which normal users sadly cannot participate in. Sysops basically can't do anything: They cannot delete pages arbitarily (only obvious junk like "jklasdfl,öasdf JOSH IS GAY"), they cannot protect pages in an edit war they are involved in, they cannot ban signed in users. What they can do is delete junk as it appears, ban anonymous vandals, remove pages that have been listed on Votes for deletion for more than a week, protect pages when asked to by other members, and help keep the few protected pages there are, among them the precious Main Page, up to date.

Note that almost everything you can do can be undone, so don't be too worried about making mistakes. You will find more information at Wikipedia:Administrators, please take a look before experimenting with your new powers. Drop me a message if there are any questions or if you want to stop being a sysop (could it be?). Have fun! --Eloquence 20:07 6 Jul 2003 (UTC)

Foo[edit]

Thanks for improving the Brussels' municipalities' articles. One question though: I'm probably ignorant, but what is "foo" (you used the word in your summaries)? D.D. 20:10 6 Jul 2003 (UTC)

Current events update[edit]

Hey - Are you going to update Gray Davis and Current events per our guidelines on what to list on the Main Page? --mav

Nevermind - Cimon avaro fixed the Davis page and I fixed the Current events page. In the future please follow the guidelines at Wikipedia:Selected Articles on the Main Page. --mav

[edit]

Actually, the extra
in Wikipedia talk:Votes for deletion was a separator between the "Archive" section and the "Format" discussion. SEWilco 15:07, 24 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Thanks[edit]

Thanks for helping with my meta page. :NuclearWinner 04:29, 16 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Semantics[edit]

Looks like your minor edit on Catch-22 makes a major difference in meaning. " .. (Catch-22) was not regarded as a great success earning less money and acclaim than MASH". "earning" has been changed to "as it earned". Now it'll appear that Catch-22 didn't earn as much money as MASH because of which we can declare it a failure. MASH had nothing to do with Catch-22's failure. Jay 15:55, 28 Sep 2003 (UTC)

VfD[edit]

Hi, I was just wondering why you removed List of zip codes in the United States from VfD. Perhaps you thought it was the same as the one above relating to world postal codes, but that is actually a different page. This is just US ones which might have different issues so ought to be listed separately. If you just take it off VfD, the world one might be deleted and this one left. Angela 19:47, Oct 4, 2003 (UTC)

Image deletion[edit]

Images can't be deleted at the moment. You only deleted the image information page. You need to click the "del" link next to an image to delete the actual image. I have listed it on Wikipedia:Possible copyright infringements. Angela 21:54, Oct 18, 2003 (UTC)

incorreect category name[edit]

Hi Bdesham, I have noticed that you have been recategorising competitors in this years Olympics as Category:Athletes at the 2004 Summer Olympics. This does not really follow the existing line of categories as Category:Athletes is for people who compete in Athletics as opposed to Category:Sportspeople that has a lot of sub-cats but covers all sports as it looks like you are trying to do with Category:Athletes at the 2004 Summer Olympics. This should really be renamed to avoid confusion.Scraggy4 21:16, 21 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Followed up to Category talk:Athletes at the 2004 Summer Olympics. --bdesham 04:17, 22 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Downtown Disney %28Florida%29;[edit]

Hi. The article title you used at Downtown Disney %28Florida%29; isn't showing up. Could you recreate it as Downtown Disney (Florida)? Thanks. RickK 22:52, Sep 5, 2004 (UTC)

Sorry[edit]

okay. Sorry. SweetLittleFluffyThing

Feature request[edit]

And so done :) You can now use the "Mark all edits as seen" link to do that. Regards — Kate Turner | Talk 03:30, 2004 Nov 12 (UTC)

Wikinews demo up and running[edit]

Hi!

I'm writing to let you know that the Wikimedia Board of Trustees has approved the first stage of the Wikinews project. There's now a fully operational English demo site at demo.wikinews.org. This will be used for experimenting with various review models and basic policies before the site is launched officially in about a week. demo.wikinews.org will become the English version later.

You voted for the Wikinews project, so I'm asking for your participation now. Everything is open, nothing is final. What Wikinews will and can be depends in large part on you. There already is a global Wikinews mailing list for discussing the project. If you are interested at all, please subscribe -- coordination is of key importance. There's also an IRC channel #wikinews on irc.freenode.net. Realtime discussion can help to polish up articles.

If you're looking for something to do, check out the articles in development and articles in review. Or start a new story in the Wikinews workspace, or ignore the proposed review system - it's up to you. I hope you'll join us soon in this exciting experiment.--Eloquence* 01:58, Nov 17, 2004 (UTC)
